Aides to use

I was wondering, I read a lot hear and most are sounding like they are using something to help them quit. Like the patch, lozenges ect...I have not used anything. Just cold turkey and you all here. So my question is what about the ecigs? Do they help? Are they an effective tool? Has anyone used that as a way to pull threw the ruff spots?

I do not recommend the e-cigarette for three reasons: 1) the vapor has been compared to the polluted air in Bejing on a bad day, 2) they just provide another nicotine delivery system while continuing the hand to mouth smoking motion, and 3) the batteries can spontaneously catch on fire.

There have been many articles and now, studies, about e-cigarettes:  Here are links to a few blogs here on the site about them.

My advice?  Just don't.  If you think you need the inhale motion, just cut up straws and take breaths through one.

I didn't use any aids such as meds or nicotine patches, but I did use an ecig for a couple of months before I quit.  NOTE I said BEFORE I quit.  Vaping is still smoking, so don't think you've quit anything if you're doing that.  To me it felt like I was breaking some of the rituals associated with smoking, making it SLIGHTLY easier to stop smoking all together.  Don't take it up now, though, if you've already quit.

the best thing to use is cut up straws or cinnamon sticks

You already have 4 days of freedom (well working on 4)   My opinion only I would say not to use nicotine replacements as  most nicotine is out of your system.  Stock up on mints, gum, cut up straws as one suggested. I used water bottle with ice cold water and carried it everywhere with me including the car.  It helped me with hand to mouth and water is good for you and flushes the toxins out of your body.  Tell yourself you don't do that anymore and NOPE (not one puff ever), You already made it through 3 days you CAN do this.  Come here and blog and ask for help when you need it. Someone or really lots of people will come running to the rescue.  Just food for thought of course you have to do what you think is better for your quit.

I drank coffee. Black. Sipped as needed. I'm not recommending this, just saying that coffee was my nicotine replacement therapy early on. Sip on water. Real small sips.

     Congratulations on 3DOF.

I used the patch and rarely used an ecig with 0 nicotine just to get me through if I thought I was going to blow my quit.  I think I may have used it 10 times?

I sipped coffee too.  It helped give me a little boost.  I however also used the patch and gum. I quit almost 5 years ago after smoking for 52 years.  Congrats on your quit. You are doing great.

If you already quit for over 3 days the nicotine is mostly out of your system. You will still be craving because of the nicotine receptors in your brain take at least 6 weeks to go dormant. Ecigs are not meant to help you quit. The patch, gum, lozenges are approved by the FDA  as NRT. but most people use NRTs at the start of quitting.
