Good Morning ...

I've been revisiting this site for a few days . Just looking over conversations..admiring everyone's strength...ive been here on and of for the past few years...I was successful in my quit for a little over 2 years ..then gave in again and ever since having such a terrible struggle that i feel like a prisoner in my own mind...I ask myself how could I be so week to this horrible addiction?...life circumstances have not helped ..but really it's just an excuse I think ...I know I'm stringer than this ...I'll be 48 next month and I'm seriously tired of living this way ...so many of my friends are on this health journey ...like I was years ago ..running 5k's....working out at the gym which I have a membership..  and I think ..why can't this be me again ?.I'm soo... depressed....I've put on weight as well and I'm worried that if I quit now it's going to get worse ..but how can anything be worse then the cough..and the smell...and everything that comes with this evil addiction....when I quit the last time ..i did it cold turkey...and I was ok..but I was on this site daily ...but when I was stronger I stopped visiting ...I really need help and support..no one can do it for me...but just knowing you all are either in my shoes or have been makes me feel hopeful in a sense ...I just need to stay here this time ....cuz I feel it..that strong sense of the"want to"...I have 2 grandchildren.abd one on the way..I do not want to smell like a cigarette anymore....thank you so.muxh for being here ....

Welcome back.  We're here for you if you need support, but you have to take the first step.  The site has made all the difference for me.  If you think you need help, NRT is an option.   I like setting a quit date and preparing in advance of that date.

Welcome back.  The people on this site helped be tremendously in the beginning.  So stick around and do lots of reading.  Education about this addiction helped me also - It is not as scary when you know what is normal.  Best wishes to you!

You can get your quit back.  We are all weak in the face of this addiction.  It is education and support  that help to strengthen us.  You've learned a good lesson:  you can't take your quit for granted.  One doesn't have to be here every day to keep up quit maintenance, but one does have drop in on a regular basis.  Like an oil change every 3,000 miles.  Or perhaps 12 times a year?  Once a month isn't too much ask.  Of course in the beginning the daily check in is good for reinforcement.

In the beginning we are prisoners of our minds.  But the key to unlocking our mind's door is just a thought change away.  Takes practice is all.   This was the kind of mind game that went on in my head.  You might relate:  /blogs/Giulia-blog/2016/09/06/a-quit-dialogue-in-iv-acts?sr=search&searchId=a4b59ec5-e31a-47ea-b4a3-...‌

Make a game plan, do your homework and persevere.  And stick around!  Glad you're getting back on the horse.

hattonc  I am so sorry that you have struggled so much...I remember going through the same thing...more than once.  The biggest differences for me were education and support...I had to make the commitment and I had to treat my quit like the fragile and helpless infant that it was.  I came here every day, first thing in the morning and last thing at the end of the day to read, to understand how others were doing this.  I asked for and I got support...more support than I could ever have imagined.  I did have a plan for my quit and I think that you need one, even if you have done this before, clearly something went wrong.  I suggest planning, use this link, My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX  Figure out EXACTLY what went wrong and prepare for it...plan to NOT allow anything or anyone to derail this quit..If you haven't read it before or even if you have...I suggest reading JonesCarpeDiem‌'s blog What To Expect In The First Four Months, I also suggest reading a blog written by YoungAtHeart‌ that I found particularly helpful...the blog itself was wonderful and then the comments made it even stronger...https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/thread/17060-for-our-new-years-quitters-and-community-members-too  This is a whole new beginning and you are young enough and healthy enough to be able to make this decision and go forward...don't keep smoking and doing damage (spoken from someone who did just that).  Do NOT let the weight gain hold you back...it's a whole lot easier to lose a few pounds than it is to drag around an oxygen tank for the rest of your life.  I am on oxygen at night only...so far.  I am doing everything I can to try to get healthier but I am never allowed to forget what I did to myself as I  struggle to breathe.  I am embarrassed by it and feel a great deal of shame over what I did to my body, you do NOT have to feel that way.  Plan your quit, pit together a plan and have a quit kit...know your triggers and plan for what to do INSTEAD of smoking.  You CAN do this, look at how far you already came.  Welcome back with open arms...we are here, we want to help you, we all had to start at a beginning, some of us more than once but we KNOW that we can do this with support and commitment as well as education.

Lean on us...I came here every single morning and evening at the beginning of my quit.  I usually come here at least once a day unless I have a problem...it helps to reinforce my quit, to strengthen it, to remember where I came from AND to remember how easily I could have to start over again.  My mantra was NOPE at the beginning of my quit...Not Once Puff Ever AND as OldBones-Larry‌ says..."One step and then anouther, will get you to where you want to be."  We have to WORK at building these quits, we have to be willing to go through whatever is necessary to keep our quits...

XOXO,

Ellen

You can do it.  Just get started.  One day at a time. My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX start tracking your cigarettes, read and study the videos.  You can do this.  You already know that you can.  Don't stay stuck.

Don't worry about the weight.  simply make the right choices.  You'll get a sugar craving but there's healthy choices to be made for that, a nice red apple comes to mind.  Once you separate the habit from the addiction/dependence, you'll be halfway home.  We have the hand to mouth motion (habit) and the gnawing need (the dependence/addiction).  We can retrain ourselves out of the habit, but we have to suffer through the dependence.  After that's conquered, then the real work begins, https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/relapse-prevention/blog/2018/04/23/where-is-it-coming-from...
