Give and get support around quitting
This was inspired by the NDC Treatment team post Communicating with Loved Ones What is “Helpful“ Quit and Abstinence Support.
What IS Support? How do we support each other? Because it's the concrete examples that help. An addict experiencing withdrawal can't think. Can barely function, in fact. So we fill that gap with actual THINGS that helped us. We point to past posts like /blogs/Youngatheart.7.4.12-blog/2013/02/25/100-things-to-do-instead-of-smoke , and https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/best-of-ex/blog/2011/05/24/no-mans-land-days-30-to130-appr... , and Early Withdrawal Symptoms.
As far as "communicating with loved ones"...what concrete examples would you give the NDC Treatment team?
Way to start with some sample phrases AnnetteMM! I'd like to see the list grow! Some people just have a way with words. I know sometimes I like to borrow others phrasing when addressing topics that cause emotion.

Thanks for the nudge, Mark!
Here's some of what I said to my family:
"If you could just not smoke near me right now, that would help a lot."
"I can't go with you for awhile, but don't stop asking me!"
What are yours?
"If I ask for a cigarette, please don't give me any."
"No smoking in the house anymore. There's an ashtray on the porch."
Beautiful, Annette. Really great blog.
The way I support:
Listening to what you have to say..
Sharing MY story, My journey
Praying for you
Understanding that while we both have the common goal to 'quit smoking' we may choose different paths...and that totally okay. I still support , I still care , I still believe........ ..it is attainable for us both. xoxo
I just thought about this post(/blogs/Anacondahead-blog/2010/08/26/letter-to-my-significant-other ) from anacondahead
