Give and get support around quitting

Avian3, you are probably right about this community keeping you on the straight and narrow. Everyone here still willing to discuss how it is going 10 years after quitting. Pretty amazing this group has been here so long. I just stumbled on it through a comment on a Facebook ad. Praise God!

Thomas, my husband quit 5/21/2010 when COPD disabled him. I hope you are doing well. If you ever need someone to discuss fev1, co2 levels, lung transplant or the value of ongoing respiratory rehab, I get it pretty well.

So I still smoke which is not a bit funny in our situation. My quit date in 3 days. Looking for tips that fit my caregiver lifestyle. Looking for blogs of ex smokers first days and weeks to psych myself up for my final quit.

For those of you who quit smoking a long time ago, is there an easy way to find your original blogs? Or the first months? Or do I need to scroll, scroll scroll?

Go to anyone's profile by clicking on their user name and click on "content" to show all their blogs.  From there you can sort by several ways such as shown below.  Hope this helps some.

I quit smoking because I was tired of being badgered by my husband.  And he paid good money for a SmokeAway product for me and I felt I owed him at least giving it a try.     AND I knew, of course, that I SHOULD quit.  I had done so in the past. For several months at a time, quit-years apart.   Didn't have symptoms, didn't want to quit.  Agreed to for a specific time frame.  Knew that once I'd quit this last time I would NEVER go back to another day one.

This is a great blog, Thomas, because so many people have weighed in on all the various reasons that we've quit.  Some are the same, some totally different.

Next blog should be:  Now that  you've quit smoking - what's keeping you there?

Because I stank. My hair stank, my clothes stank, my hubby hated the stink. I hated the stink...Made me think. I need to quit, so said thats it.

Health issues, breathing issues , low energy, grandkids, loved one, hated to stand out in cold to smoke, hated to leave a group of friends at dinner to go outside to smoke. Hated being one of the only one of our friends who smoked. Lip wrinkles. Bronchitis, Pneumonia,. smelly fingers.

$$$. wasted a lot of $$$ on the stupid cancer sticks.

Because it was time, I was ready. I did it for me. Nobody else.

I was terrified, but I quit.

I am grateful...because you all led the way after God brought me here

I went through some financial trouble. I realized that I was spending as much per week as my child's preschool tuition. Her needs were far more important. Florida offers free patches, so I ordered them and never looked back.

I didn't have any health problems related to smoking other than it was hard to breathe in the hot summers trudging up and down the hill to the horse barn.  My kids REALLY wanted me to quit. My husband's mother had severe COPD and was tied to an O2 concentrator in the nursing home. She hated it. She passed away a few years back in hospice while I held her hand.  I listened to her gurgle for days trying to breathe before she died. I realized she had suffocated to death.  The sight was not pretty so I promised my husband I'd quit.  Took a few years but better late than never!

I quit because I new I was going to be a great grandma, and to be here longer for my girls, yes, I am a single parent now that Brian is gone.  I saw what he went through with COPD and it wasn't pretty altho he was not on oxygen.

I have quit to avoid oral cancer and COPD and also stroke and heart attack.  Not to mention I am a breast cancer survivor by almost 9 years.  I am worried now that I may have skin cancer, and will see my doctor Thursday to see.

I also quit to be a good example for my grand kids.  Also I realized that even a 17 minute walk would leave me breathless.  Not to mention the smell, and cost, stinking hair, clothes, hands.  It's just not worth it!!
