What is the happens when you click OK in a Follow notification?

Jump to solution

When someone starts following you, there is a notification e-mail sent.  What is the purpose of hitting the "ok" button in the e-mail notifications?  Just wondering.

That is correct. If you click OK it sends it to Archived status if you click OK you follow the person back.

I believe that it just clears it off the list.  But Mark‌ would know more about that than I do.

Jennifer-Quit‌ and Mark‌ for the response.  I surely do not want to turn off notifications, because I have a hard enough time hearing from someone who has been trying to get in touch with me.  Makes sense that it would go to an archive, probably never to be found again, right?  hahahahaaha  Thanks for the responses, guys!

Actually, no, you can go to https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/inbox?filter=notifications  and then click Connection Updates and then click on the Archived tab. Then you'll the latest 5 connection updates and then a Load more items option.  You'll have to be on your desktop I imagine to see it.

I think you can turn off those notifications if you want...before you click okay, isn't there an option to turn off all notifications?  I think it's just to let you know that someone you are following is now following you OR perhaps it is to give you the option to follow someone you are NOT following.  CLEARLY, I have no idea.

elvan , one good thing about the notifications is that it lets me know when someone mentions me; otherwise, I would never know, because this new set-up is not user friendly for keeping in touch with your buddies.  So, I will need to keep the "notifications" button on.  I preferred the old system with being able to visit people individually, especially sneaking into Giulia‌ 's backyard to see what she had going on.  She had an awesome homepage.  She turned me on to lots of neat things that I would have never stumbled upon, i.e., Ted Talks, Ashes & Snow, etc.

If you did not specifically respond to "reply" to me or use the @ sign for me in this discussion, I would have never known you said anything.

We're getting two things confused now.

The "Follow" Notification is similar to friending on the old site. Basically you're getting a notification to say that someone is following what you're saying. You can click OK to acknowledge it or follow them back if you aren't already.. A Follow notification is one of several notification types.

Mentions (When you're mentioned on the site)
Messages (When you receive a private message)

Shares (When your content is shared)

Notifications (Connection updates and level changes)
All Items (Notifications for everything, including things you participated in and created)

Separately there are notification preference for choosing how you want to be notified.

it seems that you may have Inbox: Activity turned off for Email.  To check your settings you can go to Preferences and then look for Inbox: Activity. If Email is unchecked then you will only get a notification under the maroon notifications bell in upper right of every community page which takes you to the Inbox. It's important to have this on so that when you create content you receive an email telling you to come back to the site.  You can change the frequency to suit your needs if you don't come to the site every day. There is All Activity, Daily Summary, Twice a week and once a week. If you're coming to the site every day then you can possibly change the frequency.

Secondly you mention that you only knew to come because someone mentioned you. Sounds like you might have Inbox: Direct social actions turned on. If you have Email checked then you'll receive an email in addition to a notification in your inbox.

Inbox: Alerts is for Tasks (we don't use), Followers (the is mentioned above every time you get a new follower) and endorsements(we don't use)

Inbox: Badges is for badges you receive.

Following: This is for people you follow.

Custom Stream Name: This is for custom streams you may have created. You may or may not see this and you can choose to have email turned on and adjust the frequency.

News Digest: Once a week on Thursday two emails are sent. Once for relevant content based on your usage and participation and one for your streams of what happened in the week.  You can choose to receive it by email and you can choose how often you get it.

IrishRose   My "homepage" material is still kind of there under Giulia's profile (slide shows aren't working though).
