Give and get support around quitting

How long does this depression last?

Quit 6 days ago and have found myself incapacitated by depression. I'm on NRT but still can't sleep and feel extremely despondent during the day. Because I'm not quitting CT and still depressed, I figure it's because I've been dealing with my emotions behind a cloud of smoke and now it's not there? How long does it last? I didn't get any work done at all last week so I need to at least be semi productive next work week. Thanks!

Congratulations on 6 days of freedom.  The first couple of weeks can be difficult.  You may be expecting too much too soon.  It is not easy.  I would suggest that you take naps as much as you can.  It is often suggested if you are using patches and having difficulty sleeping, it may be helpful to remove them at night.  Here is a link that should help https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/community/expert-advice/blog/2016/01/22/what-to-expect-when-stopp...

I think I will start taking the patch off at night and just try to push through. Thanks for your insight

Congrats 6 days!

Your going through what we all did and its duration is a bit different with everyone. I am a cold Turkey quitter and this still happened to me. I do know many took off their patch at night and it did help.

Your best bet is to continue to read and educate yourself on this site. The better informed you are the easier the transition to being and staying a non smoker.

Good luck and blog often, that also helps

I asked the same question my first week. My depressive state dwindled during week 3. It creeps up on me sometimes but it leaves when the craving leaves. It's rough the first few weeks, so hang in there because you're doing great!

Thanks this is really good for me to know. I actually feel a little relief today. Hard for me to do things but I can actually push myself to do them!
