Give and get support around quitting

Feeling like I can't do this...

Right now, I feel like I can't quit. It's only been since 8:30 Sunday morning and I feel like I'm going nuts. How am I going to maintain this? How am I going to deal with no man's land?  I know I have to take it one day, one moment at a time, but my mind keeps wandering to further in the future and the thought of that without a cigarette is really overwhelming.

missellen  I feel ya I really do.  I think sometimes labeling 1 month, 2 months,  1 year etc.  NML. on and on. Can overwhelm us newbie quitters.  Even though it is there to share that it happens, to some.
However You or I or who ever may never experience these NML.. Feelings.   The labels are there for support.  But sometimes, scares the hell out of us being new, and going thru Hell, just the first few days.

Please tell yourself,
It is  reference labels or points of interests,  to search for information, on here many times.   newbie, quitters, NOPE all just a reference label.
It isn't gospel.
The labels are there to help anyone who may reach those or similar struggles  Some People  may need to  use the search key, to get  info quickly, perhaps.
Many reasons for labels

You got this.  You really do missellen !!  Kudos to you.

Read Read Read.  Lots of Expert advice, Dr. Hayes!  Lots of long time quitters,  with journeys, struggles, concurrings" .  Just keep filling your mind up with knowledge.   Dont worry with the labels.

Thank you, I think that is part of the problem for me. While it is so helpful to read others' stories and whatnot, I do find myself obsessing on the labels and timelines and whatnot and then I just feel like giving up.   I have to be a bit more choosy about what i'm reading for the next couple of days, I think.

Me too, @ times.  We are all individuals as you know.  We can all have different journeys.  Please don't give up.

I think it might be helpful, when you start to think of "forever" to STOP IT!  Remind yourself, out loud if necessary, that you have to not smoke NOW...and that's all.  A line of "nows" will lead you to forever, but why think in terms that make it seem impossible.

Just quit for the next 15 minutes, and then 15 minutes after that.  Celebrate that you got to an hour, then another.  Celebrate at the end of the day that you have another DAY WON!

You can do this ---- baby steps!

Do me a favor. Promise to do whatever it takes to not have a cigarette one more day. Whether that’s getting up to move around, or chewing on a straw, or snacking or screaming or sticking your head in a freezer. And if none of those help, then promise to resign yourself to being miserable just one more day. Then talk to me about it again tomorrow.

Sometimes it is easier for me to point to what the Elders taught me.  Something else to read. /blogs/SkyGirl-blog/2015/09/29/you-can-quit-and-yes-i-am-talking-to-you-new-folks-who-have-just-foun...

You can quit for the next 7 seconds.  Once you do that, celebrate.  Then quit for the next 15 seconds or 1 minute or 1 hour...whatever it takes.  Get through it one second or one minute at a time.  You made it through Sunday.  you made it through Monday.  You can make it today.  It will get easier.  I can't tell you when, but it will happen.

One step and then another will get you to where you want to be.

We are here.  Reach out here BEFORE you go buy a pack or bum a smoke.

You can do this for 7 more seconds.  I know it.

WAIT ! WAIT ! WAIT ! WAIT ! WAIT ! WAIT !

Did I get your attention? Did you reach for a cigarette during that time? Did it make you want to smoke? Ahhhh, nope..

Why? because it distracted you....

Withdrawals are a sense of RESTLESSNESS, and my point is that you need to find ways to distract yourself or you WILL go nuts (as you say) and will succumb to the temptation of a dose of nicotine.

By the end of this day, I am sure you will hear from many individual suggesting different ideas, and opinions regarding how to handle these issues crawling within you....'

You WILL find your niche.....you WILL and CAN conquer these craving if you apply yourself...It is temporary, remember that. Do not think of tomorrow, nor put pressure on yourself regarding the next day and the next day. Who cares about tomorrow??? I want to heal and be free from the slavery and be happy TODAY!! If you can accomplish just that, I guarantee you will wake up "the next day" with a huge smile on your face!

We're here for you.....
