Give and get support around quitting

Angry kitty hissy smoke

How am I supposed to quit smoking when I feel bad or mad at people or the past?  I also have very little to do? 

I am very stressed and I think it is going to take me a while to quit.

Pls Hilary don’t give up no matter what. Part of what we miss with our quit is what we were used to. But you and I know that smoking never made anything better. It was part of our routine to escape boredom. Believe me I’m not preaching 32 days and I still had a moment today or maybe a few. I’m trying to change my routines I doodle while I’m on the phone since I used to smoke. I have puzzles on my phone. I read EX advice I do anything not to think about it and it does pass. I also do the adult coloring books. It may seem lame but it actually calms me and I like it. Others join a yoga class or I tape yoga from TV. I hope this well help you just to know we all feel the same, you are not alone. You have us

If you can get YouTube you can find Joel Spritzer or Allen Carr they have some good. Stuff, also you can things to read online.

A great place to begin reading here is in Best of EX  And perhaps this pdf of Joel's Spitzer's book will be of benefit.  It's very informative.  http://whyquit.com/joel/ntap.pdf   The table of contents begins on page 6.  Skip to a chapter that looks interesting or start at the beginning.  There's a lot of good material in there. 

Keep educating yourself and you will discover how to quit smoking if you're sad or mad or bored or stressed.  We learn from those who have been there before us.  They help provide the map.  

Another good place for education is in Relapse Prevention‌  For example this blog:  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/message/30765-boredom-and-lonliness   You can put "relapse traps" in the community search box (upper right magnifying glass icon) for more traps and discussions.

All I can say is what I'm telling myself - the angry, pissy, grumpy, whatever situation will be there in spades if I smoke. 

I agree about the Moods, that will still be there. if we smoke! I think for me, anyway they would be way worse; because I would be flushing my own QUIT. The one, I worked hard for each day that is behind me...When something out of the blue grabs me, I just remove my focus on that...Go do something else and before I even realize it....it's Past and behind me.......

I didn't like who I was...I am discovering, day by day who I can be!

Remember that many people survive all of that without smoking!  You CAN too!

You don't have to smoke to get over those feelings...you DO have to be patient with yourself in the beginning, at least.  I found that exercising really helped to release dopamine and I felt better...when I felt better about myself, I didn't feel quite so much like lashing out at others.  This is a journey and the more you learn about the addiction, the stronger your quit will be.  One day at a time, one hour, one minute, one second.  Stay close to the site, read how others are doing and WHAT they are doing to stay quit.  It really is no mystery, it is about the acceptance of your feelings and the recognition that all nicotine did was to help you to STUFF them down.  They were still there, you still felt them, you just did not let them out.  At the beginning, they seem so much more intense because you are not used to letting them out.  You can do this...be willing to deal with life on life's terms.  Smoking does nothing for you but believe me, it does lots TO you.  I spent years denying that and I can't do that any more.  I would LOVE to go back in time and quit earlier or better yet, never start.
