Quitting smoking can be an emotional roller coaster.  How long it last depends upon you.  Each person is different.  It depends on how you learn to prepare yourself for stressful situations as a non smoker.  Sometimes we have to take a step back and question to ourselves.  How does a nonsmoker handle it?   It takes time dealing with emotions as a nonsmoker. Don't worry it will not take forever.  I would venture to say roughly within six months you will have the emotions under control. We will always have emotions but as we develop in our quit we learn a better way. We have spent many years using the cigarette to cope.  Now we have to face them head on which requires a learning process.     In the meantime it is okay to blow steam until you get there. Please take the time to learn some deep breathing techniques, they will save someone's life.

Try relaxation music on youtube, a comedy to watch, just something to break up the stress.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS ON 19 DAYS!!

I think there are a lot of phases that we go through when we quit. For me, it was like peeling back the layers of my addition. And every time I discovered a new piece of my addiction still clinging on, it would create a kind of sadness, or condition where I missed the days of smoking.

But I weathered through, just as you will. And as each day passes, it just gets easier and easier to ignore what we want to ignore and instead focus on what's really happening, because believe me, what your doing right now is incredible! Hang in there. It takes time but believe me, it's worth every bit of the effort!

There's so much peace and freedom ahead. I can't wait to hear about it.

ONWARD TO FREEDOM!!!

Rah Rah on 19 Days!!!!!!

The following blog is about cravings, but might give you some insights relating to the emotional ride as well.  /blogs/Giulia-blog/2015/02/23/expectations-timelines-and-the-reality-you-create

The roller coaster emotions are the most intense during the first month but then you reach No Man's Land and the craves seem to pop out of nowhere.  It's important to be ready for them to be ready to deal with unexpected craves.  We all went through ups and downs at the beginning and we all got stronger as a result of that part of the journey.  It's not something that we can predict...EXCEPT that we can all promise you that it DOES get better, it gets easier.  This is a journey and each experience you have is an opportunity for you to learn something about yourself.  You are doing this and 19 days is wonderful. Stick with it and be patient with yourself, treat yourself and your quit gently and put your quit before anything else.  It will grow and YOU will grow with it.  Remember that we are here for you and that we have all been where you are...congratulations.

When you quit smoking, your mind and body go through a huge change for the better.  It's a shock at 1st, but it's worth it. It probably differs somewhat for everyone, but you've gotten through the worst part. Believe what you read above. Just keep going one day at a time. It will start getting better for you. You'll surprise yourself in the not so distant future when you have a day that you realize you didn't even think about smoking for much of the day.

Fantastic job on your quit. Quitting smoking is one of the wisest things you can do for yourself.
