Try 1-800-quitnow.   I received 2 weeks of patches and counseling there.

For Medications you need to see your doctor.

This site is free and helped me tremendously.  Allen Carr has books available for free download that are helpful.  Just google to find a copy.  Best wishes to you!

Hi  jerinjess.  You can get patches at most drug stores or other stores like CVS, Duane Read, Walgreens, RiteAid, etc.  There is a website in New York (NY Quits) that you can look up and get two weeks of free patches to start.  If you read other posts you will see that each person has a different way.  None is better or worse than the other, just preference.  Pick what you think you will stick with and begin your journey.  Having a plan was the best way for me to start my journey.  Best wishes and keep coming to this site.  That should definitely be part of your plan.

Welcome to our community!

You might also check with your local (County or State) Health Department or hospital.  Many places offer free Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT's).

I wrote a blog a bit ago and asked for advice from the community that you might find helpful: https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/message/109313-for-our-new-years-quitters-and-community-members-t... It contains links to lots of good information on quitting,  Read, read and read some more!

I'm glad you're here!

Nancy

go through the steps outlined under My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX .   For patches, I bought Wal-mart's brand.  Mine were around $25.98 for 2 weeks' worth for the highest level.  I was spending around $140 in cigarettes in that time.  If you qualify, you can look into https://www.quitnow.net/Program/ for free patches/gum/lozenges.  I strongly suggest picking one out of three.  I've seen time and time again people ingesting more nicotine than what they need.  No patch or prescription is going to take the withdrawal symptoms away, but they do take the edge off.  If you're still smoking, now is the perfect time to cut back and track your cigarettes.  I was like a robot smoker, chain smoker, just one after the other.  By tracking them every single time I lit up, it gave me a chance to identify why I'm lighting up and also the choice to light up or not, train myself to give myself those few seconds to pause.  The main thing is to learn about nicotine and how it works.  Welcome to our little family here.  We're just a bunch of smokers helping other smokers quit !!!!

Patches come in dosages, to learn about that easy peasy way, search for videos on youtube. A conversation with your doc should also offer shed light  on various meds and patch dosage.

Nicotine in cigs causeses the addiction to cigs--please keep in mind that solid support in quitting is important. Ex is here to help day in and day out.

Welcome to ex...try this link from Giulia‌ /blogs/Giulia-blog/2018/01/17/quit-for-life-info

The real start is a decision. Nothing will keep you from smoking except willingness to quit after you've made that decision.

You can also buy patches online if that's more convenient for you. They were also cheaper online, I found, depending on the brand. I got the patches I'm currently using on Amazon, it was only $26.00 for 28 patches, and the brand (Habitrol) seems to be working just as well as the NicodermCQ patches did for me.
