Give and get support around quitting

6th day

Hi All,

New to this website. I have continuously smoked for more than 5 years. I have been on and off from past year. I was able to control my urge to smoke for couple of months but now I was only able to do it for a week. I am not heavy smoker now I do one a day max now. Now I am on my 6th day and it would be helpful if you can give me some tips to resist myself for one more week.

Thanks,

Manoj.

I wrote a blog with input from our members from which you might glean some important information on this addiction: https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/message/109313-for-our-new-years-quitters-and-community-members-t... Some of it may apply to you, some not; take what you need and leave the rest.

The most important thing for you to do right now is think about what emotion/situation brings about that need to smoke a cigarette.  Once you have identified that, make a plan AHEAD of time what you will do differently when you quit.  For you, the key is probably changing your mind's direction at that time.  You can read blogs here, play a computer game, clean out a drawer, go for a walk, or maybe do all  - one at a time - until the craving passes.

Congratulations on your decision to quit and your success so far.  Let's get the rest of it done!!

This addiction isn't so easy to manipulate. So if you want out, Ex has support to offer 24/7. Keep coming around, learn more about the addiction, read blogs--join in.

Welcome to EX...please look at this as a journey because that is what it is, quitting is NOT an event, it is one day at a time...no matter how much you smoked, you need to stop smoking and go forward as a nonsmoker.  Here is a link to a blog written by Dr. Hays, you might find it to be an incentive.  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/community/expert-advice/blog/2017/12/21/is-smoking-only-a-few-cig...

Best to you,

Ellen
