Help - Former Party-Girl that needs to kick the last bad habit!

Reformed & Former Party-Girl that needs to kick the last bad habit!  My husband gave me an ultimatum; quote smoking for no sex for you. He says it time for me to grow up.   I do want to quit for myself and to increase my chances of having a baby.

Quitting SUCKS! It’s tough. The last time I quit I gained 20 pounds and refuse to let that happen again!  My biggest issue is that my husband smokes too (My hubby is the occasional smoker who can pick it and put it down with out issue.)  The other "trigger" in environment is that my 73 dad lives with us and he smokes 2 packs per day.

I hope you got the help you needed and were asking for? These are the kinds of posts I would respond to because this is the kind of person I am.

Hi, this blog was written in 2012, if you look at the date at the top.  I am, not sure if they are still around.

OK, so you listed all the reasons not to quit or why it will be too hard. You listed one black mail reason, one general reason (for yourself) and one selfless reason...baby.

In my opinion, and it is only my opinion, you might want to first learn about the addiction--read and learn, learn about quitting plans (a commitment to yourself to do whatever it takes with specifics listed as to what you will do when quit) and then after you've done that, set a quit date.

No one can override your willingness to quit but you. And no one but you can override your unwillingness to quit.

Ex is a great place to start looking for some answers for your nicotine addiction problem.

There is a blog Living with a smoker  But I don't know how to give you the link to it someone here will be able to do it Read the blog and all the comments .

I quit while living with a smoker this time . In the past I Had tried to quit but because I had it set in my mind that I could not quit and be around cigarettes constantly the quit was already a failure . I once quit when my friend was in Florida for the winter when she decided to return earlier I began to doubt my ability to stay quit with her living with me again and within days of her arrival I caved in and was smoking full time once again .

This time I made up my mind that I wanted to quit no matter what I had a new and positive outlook and what a difference that has made ! It never really bothered me to see her smoking ! My craves came from within me whether I was in the room with her or not ! When we have an argument I sometimes get a crave  but it is not from her cigarette it is from my own anger ! I am learning to deal with my emotions without the crutch of a sickerette !

It has been 2 1/2 years and we still live together and she still smokes It has made me stronger in my commitment to  stay an EX ! I can be around anyone smokers or not and be comfortable In my own skin and I  thank God because many of my family members are still smoking !

My main point is Make the commitment Your mindset has so much to do with your success at quitting ....How much do you want it ????

Oh and about the weight In the first few months you will gain a bit but a few tips are ..Walking or another form of exercise , put things in your mouth that have no calories like straws or  ice water and do not always substitute food for craves I gained about 10 pounds in the first 3 or 4 months then it leveled off . I stayed pretty much the same weight for a year then I sayings welcome with a pot of flowers.gifbegan losing the added 10 pounds Now I weigh 5 pounds less then I did before I quit smoking  . To many people are afraid of weight gain you can avoid excessive weight gain with a plan !

I searched https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/search.jspa?q=Living%20with%20a%20smoker  and found https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/message/94472-living-with-a-smoker but I'm not sure if that is the one you wanted to recommend.  Go to my search and right click on the link that you want to share and then click "Copy link address" and then paste that link in a reply and it will be shared with the discussion.
