Give and get support around quitting

I have an obstacle and NEED advice!

Okay so me and my husband are also doing the Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover and I have to sit down with my husband before my quit date to have a budget plan for 2018 in order to be debt free, (another reason to quit). But all I can focus on is my quit day and preparing for that. How can I do both? How can I explain to my husband that I just have to focus on MY QUIT? WHAT WOULD Y'AL SAY OR DO? HELP!!!!!

I'd start with this and customize it to your situation.

I've already delivered my letters to my loved ones and tailored each to fit. Thank you for being here.

I, personally, would make the plan with your husband, understand what  part you need to play in it ----- and then leave the rest TOTALLY up to him to carry out, worry about, keep track of, etc.  I think the letter Thomas linked above is a good start to that conversation.  I would explain how important BOTH things (and him, too) are to you, but let him know that for the immediate future your quit needs to remain your #1 priority.  As you get further along, you can up your participation.

Let us know how you do!

It might be a good distraction - focusing on your budget rather than smoking - just a thought

It will be fun to put the money you would have spent on cigarettes towards your money makeover. I’ve been doing the Dave Ramsey snowball. That snowball got HUGE after I stopped wasting money on the cancer sticks!

GREAT comments above...putting the money away that you would have spent on smoking is a GREAT idea...you can accomplish two things at one time.  I don't know Dave Ramsey but anything you can do to focus on saving money is great.  You CAN do this!

Really good question.  I am hoping that my family will understand that I need to focus on myself for a while.  I know they are overjoyed that I am quitting, but they sometimes add a lot of stress to my plate.  I also know that life continues, so as much as I can I will try to engage in matters of life while still focusing on self-care to secure my quit.  If I need to remind my family to take it easy on me I will without feeling guilty.  Best of luck and who knows maybe looking at budgeting will increase your resolve to stay smoke free as you will see that you are becoming more debt free as well.  Best of luck in the new year and I hope to continue to see you on the board.

There's some simple ways to stay focused on your quit.

1. Keep Them Away From Your Face.

2. Say, "I Don't Do That Anymore" Every Time You Think Of Smoking.

I'd suggest being more focused on working with your husband. You can get your support from all of us.

Can we exchange #'s ?

I could REALLY use someone who understands and can divert my attention to somewhere other than the smokes.

Thank you for being here,

Shannon
