Reset my quit date?

So I quit smoking December 16 and I’ve since slipped up and had a cig last Saturday, just one. I know it sounds silly but I’m having a hard time with resetting my quit date. 10 days sounds so much better than 3.

I am proud of you for coming to the community and asking this question.  I know that was hard to do as is quitting.  It is also well worth it since you will always get a variety of opinions on the subject.  Keep an open mind and take what you want and leave the rest.

Think about why you lit up and smoked since that could help you in the future.  There is a lot of good info on the site about https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/people/rollercoaster831/blog/2017/09/20/a-slip-is-not-a-fall?sr=s...‌ and https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/relapse-prevention?sr=search&searchId=9ab320f7-2ca7-43c5-8...‌.

We will be here for you.  Come here before lighting up!

I'm so proud of you, Bopi237‌! You can do this!

Bopi237,

I am visiting family and my sister smokes, as well as some of my family. It’s been difficult but not impossible. I’m 81 days now and it’s been hell on some days. I wanted to smoke every day I’ve been here. It’s so easy to start again. Lots of emotional connections. Figure out the connections. What prompts you to smoke. Name them then you can begin to conquer them. At least that’s what I’ve been doing.

I say say this to let you know you’re not alone. Don’t be hard on yourself; I feel this makes you want to smoke even more. Beating yourself up sometimes gives you permission to damage yourself.

Stay strong, set your new goals and stay faithful to this website. It really helps me.

Good for you for resetting!  Being totally and brutally honest with ourselves is an important part of the quitting process.  Quitting isn't something that can be fudged.  Courage!

If ten days sounds good to you, then you must be seeing something good in your quit. Reset and look forward to more and more smober days. Yes you can, one day at a time.

Something else I was thinking about as I revisited this blog of yours.... those days you earned healthwise by not smoking aren't reset (except by the reactivation of the nicotine receptors).  You body is happy for them.  It's simply the personal honor of the commitment mindset that needs to be re-set.  And we do that by accepting the penalty of our having to reset our quit counter is all.  We haven't lost the benefits gained by the non-smoking time.  But we gain commitment strength though the honesty (to ourselves and our fellow members here) of the reset.  DOF means Days of Freedom.  You can't count a day of freedom if you put a cigarette in your mouth and inhaled it.  That's kind of the bottom line of a day of freedom.   Abbreviations & Expressions Used in the EX Community

why being tough on self, it was slip and not relapse. don't puNish yourself for having just one. if you think you lose you actually lost. I say it was a mistake. that just one need not reset your quit date. it's not army it's just life one slip is acceptable. it's good your fight is on.
