Hi,

I have the same nervous problem.  After many, many failed quits;  I came here.  This site helped me quit.  That was over 6 years ago.

If you do all the suggesed readings, follow the program, and blog;  you should do fine.

    Have a good evening.

Welcome to EX...I take it you are under the care of a psychiatrist, right?  Have you discussed quitting with your doctor?  There is a possibility that they would recommend nicotine replacement therapy or perhaps an antidepressant or chantix.  I don't know what medications you are on and what would be safe.  I am sorry that you lost your job, I am sure that makes things more difficult in terms of keeping busy.  I read everything I could find on nicotine addiction when I quit, I came to this site first thing in the morning and last thing at the end of the day.  I read blogs, I got to know the people on here by reading about what they were going through, how they were staying quit, how they were handling life.  Life goes on whether we smoke or not and smoking does not HELP with anything, that feeling of being bored and smoking a cigarette is a very short term fix and the feeling that you want another one comes right back.  Smoking really does not help anything...it does not make anything better, it is only the addiction to the nicotine that makes you think that it does.  I recommend talking to your doctor and then starting an active routine to quit.  On the first page of Becomeanex, there is a link on the upper left hand side called "My Ex Plan", there are several links all in a row on that page, I think you should read all of them and PLAN for your quit with those directions.  It is very important that you stay close to the site and interact with others who are quitting.  We all have to go through the beginning of a quit, it is not easy but it is possible.

Again, welcome.

I agree with Nancy about discussing it with your doctor. I would also recommend Carr book - here it is:
"The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" - free download -

Congrats on deciding to quit! Be sure to stick around! Mike is right - the support here is great!

"It has been argued that the many different causes of schizophrenia may all have a common final effect: increased levels of dopamine." We know that dopamine has been altered in significant ways by Nicotine Addiction. I would agree that your psychiatrist needs to supervise your Quit! What I do know is that you can absolutely do this!
