Feel unusually sad!

I am smoke free for 3 weeks! I have been feeling great and very proud of myself. However the last  few days I have been so sad! That's not normal for me. Crying, feeling lonely almost down right depressed for no reason. What's up? Is it the cigs? Did this happen to anyone else?

It's going to take some time but your feelings and emotions will level out , I remember only too well going through the same as you but it will get better and it also takes time to relearn different ways of dealing with life's issues without the crutch of smoking but you are doing great and stacking up your precious Days WON.

A LOT of people here have reported feeling just as you are  over the years.  Here is an outline of early withdrawal symptoms to help you understand you are not alone in them!

Hang in there!  It does get better!  It does get easier!

That was my experience around week #3...just listless melancholy, feeling mopey.  I just constantly reminded myself how much worse I'd feel if I smoked, how drained and defeated I'd feel, got myself to the gym and pushed through it.  Seems pretty simplistic, but it can be done.  Remember how far you've come, why you're doing this, and act accordingly.

Yes  in an earlier quit That I did cold turkey I actually felt sad  and grieved for the cigarettes which I thought had been my friend through thick and thin I cried almost every night for weeks ! That was my first try years ago . I had no real support .

This time i didn't feel like that i had a more positive mind set i was happy to be getting free .

My advice if you are not walking or doing some form of physical activity get yourself moving ! it will help your brain by making dopamine which fight sadness and depression .Every time a negative thought begins to form in your mind over power it with a positive thought do not let the negative win !

Are you on an NRT ? The patch really helped me and being a regular on Ex was uplifting to my spirit !

Welcome to Ex ! Congrats on your wonderful 3 week  quit !!!sayings quit smoking self talk.jpg
