Give and get support around quitting

Anyone looking for a quit smoking buddy?

Hi All,

My name is Danielle and I'm on my third day smoke free. Last cigarette was on 7/26/17. I smoked for 5 years. Today has definitely been the hardest so far. I think this would be a little easier if I had someone to quit with me/ go through the process with me. Anyone interested?

Thanks for reading!

You have much better eyes than I do, when I looked at that picture I thought it was a person with his or her arms at his or her sides and a really misshapen or missing head and a very hairy lower back. Diannnnn‌, have a nice day with THAT vision.  Want to stroke it now? Hahahahaha,

OMG, I can't believe you would do that to me! I take back calling you nice and kind....ROFL

I'm still laughing. Now I have to get into the shower with a barely human image in my head. Now I've added ooze.....too many horror and sci-fi movies over the years!

elvan‌ Thanks so much friend!

Dani!  How is your day today?

Are you using any of the NRT, Chantix and Wellbutrin or are you cold turkeying?.  Ask because I still cannot navigate the site to get introductions and bio.

One thing about this site, I don't feel alone or attacked or simple.  I put my questions and concerns out there and I am always receiving the support and answers.

Have you tried reading Alan Carr's book?

After my 2nd week of being unstable, I got a jar and put the money in that I was using for cigarettes.  i was amazed at how much I was paying to help destroy me (2 to 21/2 daily at $21 per day).

I took that revelation to a nicotine meeting and cried for a few days. If you like me - all the tv adds, warnings and societal rejections did not make me quit.  It was not till i put new information in my thoughts, reeducated my brain and follow directions to the best of my ability!!

I allowed my addiction go from cigarette to blogging.  I tried to miss a day of blogging and reading.  I felt disconnected and disoriented.   I make sure I check in at once but aim for twice a day.  I give myself time before i start my day or end my evening.  Now I am trying to figure out how to navigate it on my phone.

I am cheering for you!!

Hey there! Today has been alright for me. I'm on day 16. I went cold turkey, I haven't tried any NRT.

So far I have not smoked 159.7 cigarettes (I was at 10 per day), regained 3 days of my life, and saved 13 hours not smoking. Do you have any apps to track your quit? I would highly recommend "Smoke Free." You can download the free version on the app store, or you can buy the premium version for $9 or so. Totally worth it in my opinion.

I asked you about Allen Carr on my other post as well, but what do you think of his book? I have downloaded it but have not yet begun to read.

Cheering for you too! Congrats on your 3rd week!

Good morning Danielle,

I am a newbie. My quit date is October 1st, 2017. I am planning my journey as its coming up quick. I am worried that i will fail, and not have the courage nor the ambition i have now when the 1st is here. I would really enjoy if you would walk with me as I walk with you through this. Together we are stronger, bolder, and better as a team.

Tralow65     Good morning to both of you! Apologies for the slow response, I'm usually online here at least once a day but didn't check the site for the holiday weekend.

In regards to what you said Steph, I think that everyone worries about failure in some regard. What you're feeling is normal. But, as I've read many times on this website, "the only way out is through." For me, the system of support has helped me in times of need and stress. It's also important at this stage for you to think through your quit plan. Try to think ahead of time what your triggers may be and write it all down. It's better to do that part ahead of time than to be surprised by it when the times comes.

And to you Tralow65, I actually went cold turkey, so I don't have any knowledge on patches or NRT. For me personally, I bought a LOT of regular gum (none NRT) and will chew a piece when a craving comes. I think that Diannnnn‌ may be able to give some advice/thoughts about NRT if I'm remembering correctly. @elvan what articles about NRT would you recommend? Any thoughts to share about that?

I didn't use any NRT's so I have no personal experience with them...I know there are many people on here who DID use NRT's very successfully.  My daughter used the patch and she has been smokefree for over two years now.  I got sick and the choice was really taken out of my hands.  I could not smoke now if I WANTED to and believe me, I don't WANT to.  JonesCarpeDiem‌ wrote a blog about NRT's /blogs/jonescarp.aka.dale.Jan_2007-blog/2017/04/24/nrts-will-you-use-them-or-wll-they-use-you-therei... You can go to the top of the page and click on the magnifying glass and search for previous articles or blogs about just about anything related to stopping smoking.  I believe that, from what I have heard, the patch is likely the best since you put it on and leave it there until it is time to replace it, rather than chewing more and more gum or sucking on more and more lozenges.  Chantix is not an NRT, it does supposedly decrease your desire to smoke but I have heard some frightening things about side effects.  If I were you, I think I would post a blog asking others who have used NRT's or Chantix, what their experiences have been and what they would recommend.

Best,

Ellen
