Out of cigs and not 100% ready....

Help!  I smoked my last cigarette today and I don't really feel 100% ready to quit. I do have my quit date of 9/11. I really don't want to spend another $7.50 either..... UGH!!! Think I am just going to go for it and try to quit early.  What can it hurt?!?! Just don't want to relapse and freaking out about having panic attacks. Will read MANY articles on here no doubt and up for ANY suggestions!

Thanks friends!

Go for it! Consider it a test run that may stick. It's an exercise.

What is your plan? Are you going to use Nicotine Replacement, i.e.;  patches, lozenges, gum? If not, start drinking A LOT of water. I found drinking through a straw helped me. If you feel a crave, try drinking the water, breathing deeply and find something else to do. Many find going for a walk helps get past the crave.

Remember, there is nothing to panic about. This is a GOOD thing!

roll up your sleeves and plunge right in.  You'll find that it's not as horrific as you think

You don't have to give power to the craves, they can't hurt you, no crave ever killed anyone but no one can say that about smoking.  I don't know what preparation you have done for your quit date.  Have you done some of the reading?  Have you made a quit kit?  That's something that helped me immensely.  You are NOT giving anything up, you are taking control of your life.  YOUR life that has been under the control of nicotine.  If you have not already done so, please read two of JonesCarpeDiem‌'s blogs that I am linking here My Welcome To New Members (10 Years Of Watching)  and /blogs/jonescarp.aka.dale.Jan_2007-blog/2011/06/26/what-to-expect-in-the-first-four-months  You should also read JACKIE1-25-15‌'s blogs https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/newbie-quitters/blog/2017/07/20/are-you-new-here and /blogs/JACKIE1-25-15-blog/2017/08/07/plan-prepare-practice-to-protect  There are many people here who can and WILL step up and help you, YoungAtHeart‌ has a lovely welcoming blog for newcomers and she also has an amazing list of things to do instead of smoking: /blogs/Youngatheart.7.4.12-blog/2013/02/25/100-things-to-do-instead-of-smoke   You can do this but please don't give yourself an excuse to smoke because you move your day up.  If you are not ready, you are not ready.  No one can answer that except you.

Best,

Ellen

Do you have a plan? Cold turkey, NRT's, Meds, Gum, Lozenges? Are you prepared? Have you registered your triggers, Studied and understand what to expect.  If not you are not ready. You can start getting ready by educating yourself about nicotine addiction and what to expect. Read read and read to get started.  You have 5 more days to prepare and you don't have to smoke if you have your tool kit.

I wish I could tell you to start or not to start that has to be your decision. Only you know you. You say you don't feel 100% ready is it due to anxiety of not smoking another cigarette again or have you not read the material?  It is normal to feel anxious when you quit smoking and I know for me I anticipated the worse ever and already didn't think I could do it. Truthfully was not as bad as I thought.  If that is the reason your not ready then doing it now versus quitting in 5 more days you will still have anxiety either way I say jump with with both feet and lets do it but if it is you haven't read and prepared yourself what to expect and what smoking does for you then I say READ READ AND READ as I believe education is the key as well as the support.  Have you got a tool box ready for your quit?  What are your plans when the craves hit? Do you know what your triggers are and how you will manage them when they occur.  Will starting earlier than you planned set you up for relapse?  Know that what ever the decision on when you quit whether now or in 5 days we will be here for you and support you.  The great thing is that you don't have to do this alone. Get ready prepare, read, get tool quit together and let's make this your forever quit. We all did this or are doing this quitting thing and believe in yourself you CAN do this too.

If it is your decision to quit now, stay committed - decide you will not smoke another cigarette NO MATTER WHAT, stay busy and engaged in the early days...have a list of things you can do handy and USE it!  It takes some effort in the early days, but it becomes second nature after awhile.

Read Allen Carr linked for you before if you haven't already - you will be AMAZED at how it will affect how you think about quitting.

Let us know what you decide!

I CAN NOT BELIEVE how everyone on here just jumps in to help one another! It IS AMAZING!! Boone has ever met me yet everyone is willing to help.

Love the articles... please keep them coming. Also, I am using lozengers. I also have the patch but felt I was a little lightheaded with it. The lozengers will be my go to for now.

Almost pulled in the gas station to buy those cigs but I kept going.  Also thought I would have my hubby take me to the bar for a beer and then I would smoke, but again changed my mind. My husband quit cold turkey over 13 years ago and he has never gotten on my case about it, but he says it is all in my mind. After reading articles it is definitely an addiction.  Anyways.... this is my group message to all the above.

Thanks for the support! And how do I follow people??
