Give and get support around quitting

1,000th time is the charm

Hi all, I had quit for 3 months this time and just when I had connected to a great future and was so thrilled to be heading in the right direction I started getting my 24 hr cravings that last for days, I went three days just trying to keep busy then what did I find in the mail?? Coupons for my favorite cigs. I told myself that the new life I was creating would be better with cigs, they are organic cigs and natural, I’d connect more to the new people  I couldn’t resist anymore. Now two weeks later and $75 gone, I feel so far from that great feeling and in danger of losing it completely. I’m so sorry I smoked and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen of faith this wagon in my life. I’m taking Wellbutrin now and it’s working a little, actually I started it the week before my relapse so I was kinda like wtf? I just stocked up the fridge and cupboards to battle the withdrawal when I quit tomorrow cold turkey. This time it’s gotta stick. N.O.P.E

FORGIVE yourself and move forward. Its the only way

My bet is on you. Myself, I listed reasons to smoke and reasons not  too. Of the ones I had reasons to smoke for I addressed each one with alternatives, It helped. Hopefully, this may help you? Keep reading on this site. Many folks here w/worthwhile advise.

You can do this. Its a choice. Decide and commit.

You've got this and we got your back!

I’m going to make a hard copy of reason to smoke and alternatives and keep it where I can see it. It’s always the same for me. Social life, staying inside too much, or my ex husband of 17 years. The other one is I tell myself that smoking won’t be as stressful as fighting cravings and with _____ going on I should really just use this crutch for now. That’s actually the killer everytime. Thank you! I don’t know that I’ve actually seen that outside of myself before.

I agree completely with Mandolinrain‌, I listed my most common and strongest triggers and planned for what I would do instead of smoking.  I had to tweak it a few times because different things were helpful with different triggers.  I made a hard copy and revised it as needed.  The one absolute was that I would not smoke, NO MATTER WHAT.  I accepted that smoking really never did anything FOR me but it sure did a lot TO me.

You can do this.

I was longtime nicotine dependent when I quit in 2013. It took me more than three months to come out of my dependency--I stuck to behavioral changes day in and day out (ur...maybe called walking the walk) because I was not able to heroically and happily quit smoking--even though it was the best thing that I could do for myself. My thinking changed gradually over the first few years of smobriety. I went from being angry, argumentative, feeling helpless, confused over the whole thing to recovery--breaking the addiction, understanding that is was 100% dependency (not love, not pleasure, not joy), and feeling normal again--able to do anything without attaching it to smoking.

When I first quit I referenced smoking alot--not just craving, but the association would come up. Now I know that at that time I was ensnared in the addiction. I came to Ex at nearly 3 years smober--and I've stayed because smobriety is a one day at a time journey. Quit pals share their experiences and it makes coping with the ups and downs of smobriety, life easier.

Stick with Ex for the long run--because here there is a treasure trove of understanding, information, support. You can do this.

Welcome.  Don't beat yourself up, it only makes you want to smoke more. Just get right back on track and reach out before you smoke.

Congrats on day one!
