Turn AutoPilot to "OFF"

Smoking consumed a large part of our lives.  Whatever emotion we EXperienced we turned the autopilot on and automatically smoked.   Becoming a nonsmoker requires us to learn, relearn, adjust our behavior to turn the autopilot to smoking off.  I am sure the first question on your mind is: how do you do that?  I would not ask you to do anything I have not done so here are 10 Doable suggestions to help you get started.

#1  Make a commitment to YOURSELF that No Matter what is happening in your life NOPE (Not One Puff Ever)

#2  Be willing and determined to change whatever, by any means necessary  (People Places and Things)

#3  When the urge comes, find a distraction and change your focus.

#4  Come here, read-write study relearn your behavior, ask questions, vent

#5  Have a plan of what you are going to do BEFORE the cravings come and DO IT!

#6  Keep telling yourself you will make it and know that if you hang tough and go through it you will.

#7 No matter what who when where how. Never give up

#8  Keep a list of why you quit  handy to read often

#9  /blogs/JACKIE1-25-15-blog/2019/10/23/dig-deep?sr=search&searchId=9b7fd54c-8663-4223-9430-56693dfa543...  Inside of Yourself not to give up.  It is there, tap into it like never before. Don't quit on the quit.

#10 Develop your own mantras for self-talk, it WORKS

Each time you say NO it will get easier.  In a matter of time, the thoughts of smoking will subside.  The Elders say you have to "go through to get to".   No Matter What NOPE.  Say it over and over again until it sticks. Then the autopilot goes "ON" to "I don't do that anymore' and you are able to move forward to improve other areas of your life.

Turn your Autopilot" ON" to FREEDOM.

After 910 DOF, I still had to do it today; tired, annoyed, stressed out, autopilot was on, stood up from my desk to go...where?  to get a smoke?  really?  No way, turned off the autopilot, and came here instead, read some blogs, posted some comments, wrote a blog.  Crisis averted!

Thank you Jackie!

Great post and great links back your excellent material.  Interesting at this stage of my journey (12+ years), I'd say my autopilot is on and set to Never Another Day One.  For at this stage of journey it's automatic NOT to smoke.  Cruising along smoke-free at 10,000 feet sucking on nothing but air.
