You Can Get Pass It

Some days may be difficult but as time passes it becomes easier.  Yes, you will think about cigarettes when you first quit. Many ask when will the thoughts go away.  Trust me, they will but in the meantime, you have to get past it.  You can get pass each urge to smoke one at a time.  It only lasts for about 1 - 3 minutes depending on how much and often you smoked.  You can allow stress to be an EXcuse to smoke, I did until I learned I needed to prepare myself before a stressful situation arises. I focused on remaining calm because getting upset would be a trigger that I would have to get past.   I told myself that the urge is not going to last that long and I will get past it   I told my addictive brain NO over and over again and meant it. When I said NO the urge would stop.  That let me know that I was in control.

You still have to try different things that work for you and continue to find things because the addictive brain is tricky and it recognizes after a while that you are trying to take control.   Being the closet smoker,  I used perfume a lot to hide that I smoked.  So when I quit I started spraying perfume so my addictive brain did not think it was time to smoke, However, my addictive brain got wind of it and knew what I was doing so I had to try something else.   Find your favorite music, sing a song, wash dishes, keep at it, don't give up.  Keep telling myself that you are going to get past it.  I did, I think I have done well 1248 days quit.  I believe that you can too.  So tell yourself to get past it and you will. One urge at a time, one trigger at a time, one thought at a time.  Distract, deflect, do something else. Breathe, Scream, Cry, Holler, Dance, Come here, Vent- Blog Read. Sing, keep believing that you can get past it and you will. A wise Elder once said you have to go through in order to get to. Get past it.

You can make it.  One moment at a time if you have to break it down that way.  One of the best tools God gave us was breathing.  It can calm you down like nothing else. Practice using it.  It WORKS! Cheering you on.  You can do it.

Well written blog Jackie.  So true, that have to "Go through to get the breakthrough". It so very important to be prepared ahead of time because life happens and now we have to find a replacement to deal with 'life' instead of smoking. Life is so much better without smoking over every situation. Non addicts do it everyday. We can be free too, its our choice for the taking

Beautiful Lady Jackie...it is so true that we have to just keep going and we learn so much about ourselves on our journeys...we learn that we are stronger than we ever thought we were.
