Nicodemon is Screaming Today!

The Nicodemon is using all its power today!!  Those stupid thoughts keep going round and round in my head..."Just one puff" "Just one smoke" I've even got thoughts of who I could go visit down the street and get one   I'm agitated and irritable.  I haven't felt like this since I quit 5 days ago!

I've followed along with the Breathe In, Breathe Out video post...that helped a bit...then the thoughts came back  I've been outside working in our yard and tending to our roses and it's not distracting me!  So I came here to post and to read.

What else should I do???

Hang in there-it will pass and you will be so grateful you didn't give in. There is no pattern to this struggle. Our addiction acts different with each 1 of us. I am on day 10 and I've been craving since the start but each day is easier. I've notice that when I'm having a really bad day though, the next day is always better.

Good job coming here.  You have to recognize that the demon that is screaming is you.  You have to learn to holler back.  Tell it to get to stepping that it is wasting it's time because no matter what You are not going to smoke. If all else fails.  Bite on a lemon.  Stick your head in the freezer.https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/best-of-ex/blog/2018/01/04/early-withdrawal-symptoms

Laugh at him - seriously Laugh out Loud at him and tell him that you are not going to fall for that trick.

I am not sure how much you have educated yourself regarding "why" we crave cigarettes, but it is actually the NICOTINE that the cigarette provides like a syringe to enter your lungs and your brain receptors. When you smoke it takes about 7 seconds for your brain "happy place" receptors to acknowledge the drug....then IMMEDIATELY as it starts to leave your  system we "crave" another cigarette, and the cycle begins, but never ends (unless your sleeping). By now most of the nicotine should be OUT of your body, but your mental status and emotional dependency's are kicking in..This is the most crucial time to DISTRACT yourself by any means possible....It will pass, but you must keep that in mind and follow through...

We have all been through this............and you CAN get through it as well....WE BELIEVE IN YOU!!!!

Miles of smiles....

Hang in there Deborah.  It is hard, but so worth it.  Stay on the site until the craving passes.  It has really helped me to just read posts and write.   Are you using anything?   Straws to chew on, sour candy, etc.   The psychological cravings are our challenge. I'm still missing my reward cigarette after I've been working around the house.  I just came in from doing yard work, that's why I just checked in.

Oh Connie...thanks for the positive feedback.  I just got up and watered everything and it helped.  The support here is phenomenal.  Thank you for reminding me that tomorrow will be easier.  I was getting lost in those obsessive thoughts.

Jackie...I read your comment and immediately went to stick my head in the freezer.  Several deep breaths of the cold air took  Nicodemon away for the time being. I'm so grateful I didn't give in and go get a smoke! I am doing this!!  One minute at a time! Thank you for the suggestions and support.

Thank you for the explanation.  Really helpful!  I've been here only 5 days and am reading as much as possible. There is so much information and I am like a sponge soaking it all in.  Thanks to the immediate replies, I was able to get through the sledgehammer type cravings.

Thanks again.
