Why are lab animals with highly controlled diets getting obese?

The common assumption is,

If you eat more calories than you use, you store them as fat

The less you eat, the less you store.

This does not appear to be the entire story

Where are the sources behind this story do you know Dale ? I have no comment , but am grateful for you posting this read.

"Temperatures above and below the neutral zone have been shown to cause both humans and animals to burn fat, "  If that's true then I should be as skinny as rail, for six months of the year I do nothing but SWEAT here.

True , I was just looking for the links ( usually posted at bottom of articles ) to make for quicker research . I am always interested in learning more so wanted to quick check the links , it will just take a bit more work .
