Leonard Nimoy, the name behind the iconic Star Trek character 'Spock', has
told his fans he is suffering from chronic lung disease
SCIENCE fiction's greatest living legend, Leonard Nimoy (you may know him
as Spock), has revealed he has chronic lung disease.
Speculation as to the state of the iconic Star Trek actor's health arose
after he was spotted in a wheelchair at a New York airport earlier this
week.
The 82-year-old had a breathing tube attached.
Concerned fans have been seeking answers ever since "Spock" stopped
appearing at conventions in 2011. He did, however, make a guest appearance
in the recent movie Star Trek: Into Darkness, as well as in an Audi
commercial.
Last night, a tweet on Leonard Nimoy's official twitter account stated:
"I quit smoking 30 yrs ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says,
quit now! LLAP."
The sign-off refers to his character's well-known phrase from Star
Trek, "Live long and prosper."
COPD is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It's a degenerative condition
that makes it increasingly hard for sufferers to breathe.
It is usually associated with severe coughs, wheezing and a shortness of
breath.
The leading cause is listed on many medical sites as being smoking.
I truly believe smoking to be the major cause of COPD!! Since I quit almost 5 months ago, I have been a different person. I breathe better, need oxygen only at night and no longer am short of breath. Not only that, I'm happy and plan to LLAP!! Thanks, as usual, Thomas!!

my buddy 🙂 Thomas 🙂 (((hugs))) great post thats right he quit not soon enough , my dad quit when he was 35 hes 77 today with copd ,not bad but he still has it . Candy smoking is the biggest factor in copd but you dont have to smoke eaither to have copd , there is alpha 1 that is the most undetected form of copd b/c its heridatary , it takes a blood test to confirm that, there is enviormental too.2nd hand smoke ,when we smoke it damages us faster . I was also tested for alpha 1 too thank god i didnt have that one, wouldve been a double whammy then & remember when you damage the lungs its for good its not reversible ..
OH NO!!!!! How did Spock get to be 82??? I thought I would die with him this week when I heard Pete Seger was 94!!! HOW in the world did all these people get to be so old???
WAIT!!! WAIT!!!! Could this mean I am old too??????
No..................that can't be true.....................
can it?????
Beam me up Scotty---
Live Long and Prosper!!!!!!!!
Today I was having my teeth cleaned, when I was informed the dentist that I had stopped smoking 10 days ago. And so during the conversion he was telling that we have lots of sacks in our lungs; when one opens wide while we smoke the tart gets in the opening of the sack, making it impossible for the sack to close back up and therefore many years later for former smokers around 70's or 80's like in Spock's case we develop emphysema and bronchitis. Even with these stasts we should commit oursfleves to stop smoking and perhaps not develepoing COPD IN A WORSE WAY. N. O. P. E.
