New Day: "The Light"

Posted by JACKIE1-25-15 Jul 5, 2018

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

Proverbs 4:18

Good morning.

Today my mind goes back to when I was a child.  As children, we were required to memorize Bible verses.  One that I learned early in life was Matthew 5:16.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  KJV

Along with that during summer Vocational Bible School we would clap our hands and sing.

"This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine,

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine,

Everywhere I go, I'm gonna let it shine.

Let it shine,  let it shine,  let it shine.

I am sure many of you know that song.  This morning when I awakened the Matthew 5:16. came to my mind.  It stayed with my thoughts as the morning progressed.  As I started to read from my daily devotional what I read coincided with my first thought of the morning.  I believe that is the direction I am to follow in this blog, The Light.  Ecclesiastes 3:1 says,  To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven:   In quoting that scripture, I say there is a reason for everything.  There is a reason that you and I are here.  There is a reason that you are reading this blog.  We have come to Ex to get support for quitting smoking but if you look around there are other avenues to venture.  There is Gardening Lovers, Exercising and Health  Cooking Quitters Prayer Circle, Best of EX   Laughter is the Best Medicine.  The list goes on and on. Right now I am in Christian Quitters  In my mind, I call it "My Little Corner".  This group has been really good for me.  It has enhanced my Bible studies to share "The Light" from this tiny itsy bitsy little corner and that is perfectly fine with me.  For it is all for His glory and I say that with a smile on my face and in my heart. To God Be the Glory!

Romans 11:36 For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen. KJV

Today the daily journal emphasizes that we bring glory through worship, being Christ-like, serving and loving others, and by telling others about Him.  The path is not easy but the reward is eternal life.

Matthew 7:14 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

Matthew  5:15

No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. NLT

2 Corinthians 4:6

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

John 8:12

Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."

Question for today.

Is your light shining or is it hidden?

Making Decisions

Have you ever chosen a certain path, only to find yourself regretting that decision later?  I have. Life consists of a series of choices, some as small as what to eat for dinner, and others with eternal impact. Including the decisions on what to share.  Facing these crossroads can seem overwhelming, but Scripture offers guidelines to give us confidence and direction.  Therefore, when decisions are imminent, we should keep the following in mind:

First, God promises wisdom to His children who ask with faith. James 1:5-6 Remember, His Spirit resides within believers and is available for guidance. When we try to weigh the pros and cons ourselves, we miss out on the magnificent help from the all-knowing One.

Second, we should study the Bible, asking God to open our eyes to His truth and His way. The Lord promises that His Word never returns void  Isa.55:11 If we meditate on His Word He will bring the truth to our minds at the appropriate time. Amen

Third, we are wise to be aware of our mental state as we approach decisions. The acronym “H.A.L.T.” stands for hungry, angry, lonely, and tired—four states in which we will likely make poor choices. When considering options, it is well worth waiting for a better time.

Our choices determine our direction, so consider carefully how you make decisions. Scripture is clear that we see dimly (1 Cor. 13:12); God alone views the whole picture. It is vital, therefore, to rely upon His wisdom, truth, and direction every time we select an option before us and make decisions God's way.

Psalm 119:105  Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Good evening,

What a lovely day.  Temps up to 97%.  It is still "all good".  Along with being sleepy last night, this chapter had me a stumped a bit. I read it several times today.  I am reminded that this is a book, a journal, a guide and I should use it as such and that there is only one Book, the Bible and none above. Hopefully, you will remember me saying that as we go forward. As Christians, we are to rightly divide the word.  2nd Timothy 2:15. It says, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth."  I have checked scripture before relaying any of it here.  In light of that, I will highlight the scripture references for this chapter because further study is required of me. The essence of the chapter is that life on earth is a test and a trust.

The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren

Day 5

What is your life?  James 4:14

And the journey continues....

Life on earth is a test.

God will test our faith, character, obedience, love, integrity, and loyalty.  You will be tested by major changes, delayed promises, impossible problems, unanswered` prayers, undeserved criticism and senseless tragedies.  Tests are important to deepen our character, to demonstrate love, and to depend on God.  Your rewards are in eternity.

Life on earth is a trust.

Our time on earth, our energy, intelligence, opportunities, relationships, and resources are all gifts from God that he has entrusted to our care and management.  We are stewards of whatever God gives us.  God is the owner of everything and everyone on earth.  He just loans the earth to use while we are here.  Everything we enjoy should be treated as a trust.  At the end of our life on earth, we will be evaluated and rewarded according to how well we handle what God entrusted to us.

Verse to remember

Unless you are faithful in small matters you won't be faithful in large ones. Luke 16:10 NLT

Points to Ponder:  Life is a test and a trust.

Questions to consider:  What has happened to you recently that you now realize it was a test from God?  What are the greatest matters God has entrusted to me?

Scripture References.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

I Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.

Matthew 25:21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

Luke 16:11  Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

Luke 12:48

48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him, they will ask the more.

New King James Version (NKJV)

I hope your day was as much of a blessing as it was mine.

To God be the Glory.

The journey continues...

Day 6

   Life Is a Temporary Assignment

Psalm 39:4 New King James Version (NKJV)

Lord, make me know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am.

To make the best use of our lives, we must never forget that life is extremely short and we are only temporary residents here.  We are just passing through, just visiting earth.  God says we are to think differently about life from the way unbelievers do.  Believers understand that there is more to life than just a few years on this planet.  Our identity is in eternity and our homeland is heaven. When we grasp this truth we will stop worrying about "having it all."

IICorinthians 4:18  Memory Verse While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Thought for today: When life gets tough and you are overwhelmed with doubt and fear remember that you are not home yet.
