The Journey Continues  Day 4

The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren

God has planted eternity in the human heart. Ecclesiastes 3:11

You have an inborn instinct that longs for immortality.  This is because God designed you in his image to live for eternity.  Even though we know that everyone dies, death seems unnatural and unfair.  Your earthly body is just a temporary residence for your spirit.  II Corinthians 5:1 refers to the earthly body as a "tent" and your heavenly body as a house.

II Corinthians 5:1  For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Eternity offers two choices...heaven or hell.  Your relationship with God on earth determines your relationship to Him in eternity.  If you learn to love and trust God's Son, Jesus you will be invited to spend the rest of eternity with Him.

On the other hand, if you reject his love, forgiveness, and salvation you will spend eternity apart from God forever.

When you fully comprehend that there is more to life than just here and now you realize life is just preparation for eternity and you will begin to live differently.  You will start living in light of eternity which will affect how you handle every relationship, task, and circumstance.  Problems that seemed so important will appear trivial, petty and unworthy of your attention.  The closer to God the smaller everything else appears.  Living in the light of eternity changes our values.  Your time and money will be used more wisely.  Priorities will be reordered.  Relationships and character are more important than wealth, fame and achievements or fun.   Trends, fashion, and popular values won't matter as much.

Death is not termination but a transition into eternity.  To make the most of our lives we much keep the vision of eternity in our minds and the value of it in our hearts.  God has a purpose for your life on earth but it doesn't end here.  If you have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ there is no need to fear death.  Death is the door to eternity.   Our time on earth is a blink of an eye compared to eternity.  The deeds of this life are the consequences of the next.

Verse to Remember

1 John 2:17

The world and its desires pass away but whosoever does the will of God lives forever.

Ecclesiastes 3: 11

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end

Philippians 3: 7

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:9

However, as it is written:“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”the things God has prepared for those who love him

Matthew 25:34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

For one will plant a seed, another will water, but God will give the increase.  Amen
