Been away from Easel due to grandkids and skiing and work but finally finished this Elder. mike_in_alanta. Did him in watercolor and acrylic for change. Also.....
Up next is our community leader Mark Then elvan and Patty-cake Also have plans to re-do Sudie. Was not happy with the final on her.

Michwoman , Laura.... I want to....things are touchy with my Mother in law right now and my my Mom. Both having some bad health issues. My Mom is 90 and Petes Mom almost 95. It is very doubtful I can make it this year but I sure will be with you all in spirit.
There was a mom/MIL thing last year too, wasn't there? I hope when I'm in my 90s, I have someone like you who cares enough about me to take care.
Yes, Petes Mom. Last year things started to get bad and we thought everything was declining rapidly.. she hung in there and now is in Hospice Care.....last year, I had to take her to all her appointments. With Hospice involved, thats not the case anymore.. Dementia much worse and her lack of O2 and congested heart failure is very bad....worse than last year.
Its tuff watching them decline and feeling so hopeless.

My guess is that it is to keep the canvas from tipping off the front of the easel?
Giulia I don't know the proper name for it but It is used to steady my hand sorta like a hand rest, when I am doing detail. Sometimes it is hard for me to keep my hand from not shaking when I am doing a lot of detail...this provides a rest for my hand Another thing I use is a Maul stick which is for the same purpose . I use whatever is handy at the time I am working
Ah. I thought it was a vertical pole to help keep perspectives correct or something. So, come on, ya gotta find out what the name of that fabulous thang you have is. BUT, thanks for providing the term "maul stick" to me. (Sounds like what that thing is you're using. I don't see the difference between the two according to how you use it. Just looked it up and found this beautiful woman explaining it:)
There's so much we "civilians" (that what we actors call non-actors - do you painters use the same term?) don't have a CLUE about in artistry. So it's fascinating to learn any little thing about the magic you create.
Oh and look at this video about mahl sticks and sign painting: (only took four tries to get the video up here. GRRRRR Perseverance wins!)
But wait, here's one in ? Russian and it looks just like yours. Is yours as versatile as this maulstick?
God, ain't the internet FUN!!!! In half an hour I've learned all about maulsticks (well on a minor level!). I've never ever understood how anyone could get bored in life. There's so much fascinating stuff to learn about!!! How can you possibly be BORED with what humankind or animal kind has done and created??? I am endlessly fascinated and in awe of God's imagination.

Thanks for taking the time to look it up. I didn't even spell it correctly, duh, but yes I love my Mahl stick and could not do fine detail without it. The smaller one I have has a bulb at the end covered in soft material.. This larger on has a triangular wood piece at the top so I like it better. I can hang it ontop of canvas I am working on...so yep, I guess it cold be considered a Mahl stick I knew the smaller one was a Mahl stick but was not sure my bigger one was, as I have used it for years. The great old Masters like Vermeer ( one of my favs) used them
Vermeer used them huh! Now there's a guy who could paint portraits.... They sure knew how to capture light, didn't they!
He was freakin' awesome in my book. This painting he did below, still remains my favorite, 'The girl with the pearl earring' I actually plan on trying to paint this one of his in the future, sorta like a study
OH.....and he also was a fan of black backgrounds to expose his Model even more with light! Genius!

Talk about light and dark - this is a small print I have on my office wall, but I saw it in the flesh in the National Gallery of Art in DC (and bought the print there because it blew me away). Called the Repentant Magdelan by Georges de La Tour. You ever seen it? It's exquisite. The light from the candle and the expression on her face....

I would say the Elders are definitely considered valuable and that each Elder personality has it's own flavor, productivity on the board, and certainly the adaptability to withstand platform changes, high drama, personal morphing and without a doubt hardiness to overcome any obstacle.
Hey, maybe painting us is another way of planting us. You're an Elder too, ya know!
I think mines on vacation, I am forgetting everything today....mostly just gloomy , damp, wet, cold, cold outside and bored to death right now inside. Kinda sick of painting too :O)
I'm right there with you. TIRED of the wintry dark, gloomy and cold drizzles. Check out Duolingo? It's a free site where you can practice/learn a foreign language. Don't think it will make you fluent, but it's good mind exercise!
So I went and chopped all me long hair off out of boredom, hahaha,......kept me busy for about an hour anyway, hahahahaha
Hubby and I are watching Netflix show ' Blacklist' and sorta becoming addicted to it
O M G - a friend and I are hooked on it, too!
The violence was a bit graphic to begin with - but the subplots are A-MAZING. One week I hate Reddington, the next I just want to give him a hug. Did you notice there are, like, 133 episodes???!!!
Keep us busy until Spring, anyway! I limit myself to one episode a day so it WILL last!!!

Youngatheart.7.4.12, we love it...I wish Liz would figure out he is her dad, geese..getta clue kid! hahaha....We are only on second season , I would have thought she would know by now. We are at the part where FBI are looking for her and her boss found out he is NOT dying of a Glioblastoma. Who writes this stufff? Great story. I am also watching Anne with an E of Green Gables. Love it too!
Before/After....I tried at home first and took off about 3 inches before salon trip
Only thing is in both pics above I used a flat iron to straighten it and so did salon after they finished cutting.. Otherwise really curly. Will be anxious to see it without the flat iron effect.

Whadda ya mean you chopped all your hair off? Don't believe in going to a professional for that purpose? Or confident enough that YOU can do it yourself? More power to you, if the latter is the case! And how the heck do you cut the back? In a mirror? Like I do when I dye my own? No easy feat.
I have no doubt Mandolinrain did a thoroughly professional job....she can do everything else - why not hair stylist?

Sandy-9-17-17 Feeling better, still a chore to get anything done, the fatigue is stealing my life away from me. Worst part of COPD although the shortness of breath and people asking me if I am okay when I am clearly NOT OK, is embarrassing. I see the pulmonologist this week, had CT Scan yesterday, hope everything is the same as it was.

It was one of the series nominated for the SAG Awards this year that they sent out to us professionals for consideration. Thought it was just FAUBULOUS! (We don't have cable.) Great writings and wonderful acting.
