The Become An EX site and social network is officially one year old. Since the network opened, there has been a phenomenal amount of discussion, questioning, sharing, and connecting that has taken place online. Some people have poignantly asked for help and support, and others have responded with caring and by sharing their experiences.
It is really amazing to me to see all the activity that takes place in the community. Individuals who previously might have been alone, now join the network and connect with others in groups like QPC (Quit Party Central), or in a group with others who have a similar quit date. They find folks from the same geographic area, or connect with people who focus on avoiding relapse or managing triggers.
Looking through the diverse blogs, comments and discussions there are a few common themes:
1. There are many people who are very motivated to beat the difficult dependence on tobacco
2. There is comfort and strength in joining a community in which people understand
3. There are many wonderful people who are willing to put time and thought into helping others.
We at the Mayo Clinic feel very grateful to be part of this network and wish all of you another year of getting stronger and healthier. We need to continue to reach out to others so that they can share in this rich experience.
Dr. Richard D. Hurt is an internationally recognized expert on tobacco dependence. A native of Murray, Kentucky, he joined Mayo Clinic in 1976 and is now a Professor of Medicine at its College of Medicine. In 1988, he founded the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center and since then its staff has treated over 33,000 patients for tobacco dependence. Happy Birthday!!!
I know I can talk to my friends that never smoked and they are happy for me but they don't understand. I come in here and blog and just about everyone understands where I'm coming from. No one really can understand a smokers addiction except a ex smoker I truely feel that way. So thanks for putting the program together and for the web site that we can share with each other.
I still think we need a live chat room :) hint hint lol Way to go 1 year Brithday EX
This site has helped so many people quit smoking including me Whoever came up with this idea...give yourself a pat on the back because this site is totally awesome!
Thank you
Happy First Birthday to "Become an EX"!!! ;)
I so very much remember my 5 th grade teacher saying to me "Can't never did a thing, but can always will"
That sounded stupid to be in the 5th grade until me and Dad had a ta;l about it/
He says to me "you can't do your spelling words, then you can't and wond't, but until you decided that you can and will do something nothing will ever get done
So many people here that Thought that I can't stop smoking" Look at where we are now. On each others pages..rooting each other on. gibing and taking advice from total strangers.......And it working...as a team and as a community we are here for the same common good for that of any who enters our pages. "We Are non-smokers, helping people to learn to live without their addiction" It really is beautiful thing...and we thank you, I know that I thatnk you for what you have done,
Only you will know if the end of May quit date is right for you. Go do the front page of the website and follow their plan. If you have a plan, then no matter when your quit date is.... you're more likely to succeed.
