Hope you are feeling a better. I was checking out your stats and it appears it’s not your first quit on this site? I know that unless you are truly ready it’s not possible to quit. Maybe while it’s still fresh in your mind write down in detail how miserable you truly felt and what is different this time. Quitting is all about attitude and commitment. You are the only one that has the ability to be successful. We can make excuses for what’s going on around us triggering us, but what it comes down to is our choices.
Quitting is hard. I’m at 76 days and going thru mental cravings. It would be sooooo much easier to just give in and go back to the “security” of smoking. But I’m not going to do that cause I QUIT and a QUIT is a QUIT. Stay out of your head. Don’t think about smoking. Yes this is rough but anything worth having is.
Wishing you a wonderful first day on this exciting journey!
Beck
Welcome to the community, you remind me of myself, I quit during a bad flu almost 3 years ago.
It was hard to be on my own for the first month, I used patches, and e-cigarettes, decreasing the dosages of these every week.
Then I came here, like you did, and I started learning, and most of all, getting supported by knowledgeable people, who all they want to do it help.
Instrumental in my quit was the reading here, and being present, and writing blogs. All you have to do is write one with the word Help in the subject line and someone will respond and provide solutions, ideas,
Read "The easy way to quit smoking". There are some free versions if you google it, but I got my own version on Amazon for about $7.00. This book produced a change in the way I looked at smoking, made me understand my addiction and also that it was in my power to get away from it.
Congratulations on your decision and Welcome again!
I am so glad you are back! I was just like you. Had many decent length quits (more than a few weeks), but kept relapsing. Then for some reason, when I caught yet another flu 2 years ago, I just felt like enough was enough. I crushed a cigarette I wasn't even halfway through with, soaked the rest of my pack, and haven't looked back. This is your time! Welcome home!
What are you doing differently THIS time? I hope you have read the book by Allen Carr that lots of us here credit for our success. If not, do it NOW! ("The Easy to Quit Smoking"). You can find it at your library or cheaply on the 'net. It helps to know your enemy - and this short, entertaining, easy read will help you do just that.
Think about what caused you to lose past quits. Whatever the emotion/event, make a plan NOW how you can handle it differently this time. Be prepared - not surprised.
Let's make this your final one. Let us know how we might help!
