Smoking in Schools!

News from the U.S. Dept of Education indicates that a new program is about to be instituted in our nations schools! A new curriculum for 6th and 7th graders could require our children to smoke at school! Studies indicate that the best soliders in the battle against nicotine addiction are those who have smoked, and quit! The new plan will require the schools to allow up to 10, six minute smoke breaks during the school day! One hour will be added to each school day so that the kids can still get all their basic class work done!

The NEA(teachers union) is protesting the longer school days! One teacher is quoted as saying "The union is organizing to fight the Dept of Education on this one! Why should we have to work longer days? Although, as a smoker myself, I would appreciate the chance to grab a smoke here and there."

Proponents of the plan say that introducing the addiction at an earlier age will make breaking the addiction easier, and can be accomplished in a high number of cases during the 8th grade! "We are confident that 93% of the students will be smoke free by the time they graduate! A 7% smoking rate is much lower than the current national average." said a high ranking official at U.S. Dept Education. When ask about funding for the program He dropped a bombshell! "The funding for this program is included in thousands of unread pages of the Affordable Health Care Act". This is considered, by many, to be the most important accomplishment of our current administration.

For the most part officials of major tobacco companies did not return our calls. The one person that we were able to speak with said, "We have know for a long time that kids are the future of this industry! We are not alarmed by this new government program! In fact, I suspect that we will be ask to help fund it! We, of course, will be happy to do our part............ for the children!

I hope that all of you enjoy you April 1st!                                 Tommy
