Problem with credibility!

Posted by pir8fan Jan 27, 2011

The problem with credibility is that once you have blown it you really can't "clean up you reputation"! It is impossible to unring a bell! Posting blogs and not allowing comment does not do you any good either!

She says that she is nobody special! I hope a lot of folks who have been here long enough to know better get a chance to see this! Just In case I am the only one who notices;  bj you are very special to so very many of us! Your wisdom and sense of humor make this a better place! Your level headed look at reality is a blessing to all of us! So many of us care about you, and your quit and the good, the bad, and the ugly that life throws at you! I can remember writting blogs while thinking "I wonder what bj will say about this!"

The whole point is that you are very very special, and if I have failed to make you aware of that, then that reflects poorly on me! Not on you! So, CONGRATS on the first 300 days of your new and improved smoke free life! You are truely special!!

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Dale is having some technical difficulties this evening! He will resume his irregularly scheduled broadcast as soon as possible! This is only a test. Had it been a real emergency Dale's phone number would have appeared in the mirror of your master bathroom! Please stand by for further developments!

What were you doing a thousand days ago?? That would be 2 years 330 days ago! Sandee was fighting off the craves that come with your first smoke free day! She was wondering what she was doing, and how long it could really last! Thousand days later--- I think she is beginning to get a handle on this!

Please, all join me in extending congratulations to Sandee! A thousand days is an awesome start to a quit!! And still  she returns to this community of "Collateral Kindness" and shares her humor, her wit and, rumor has it, ocassionally, attitude with us! Sandee, we are proud to have you among us! I hold you up today as an example not only of what can be done, but what has been done! In the vast sky of our community, you are indeed a bright and shinning star! Be as proud of yourself as we are of you! Do something special for yourself today, and in the words of one of the best friends that this site ever had, "Treat yourself gently!".

We love and respect you!!!

Bare spot!

Posted by pir8fan Jan 14, 2011

As we look to the garden of our community we notice a bare spot that is normally occupied by our Sweet Flower, Daisy! I was fortunate enough to have contact with Daisy a short time ago! She sends her love to all of you! I am asking you to send your prayers to her!

Daisy is enduring the pain of a very personal tragedy, the details of which are not mine to chronicle. However it is extremely important to her for you to know that she has neither abandoned us nor forgotten us! I am also proud to report that in spite of the burden she is carrying , she is carrying on smoke free! At this point she is 17 days away from her one year anniversary! Whether she has retuned to our family by then, or not, I think we need to have a HUGE party in her honor!

Daisy is truely one of the best among us! Even though she is "Missing In Action" , I ask you all to join me in keeping her at the forefront of our thoughts and prayers. Thank you all!           Tommy

The following is a re-post of my blog from last June 26th!

Look at all the people!!!

June 26, 2010 by pir8fan   Comments (8)

Sometimes we get caught up in our lives and do not pay as much attention as we should to what is going on around us!! I was just looking around and re-living some of my fondest moments here. Suddenly it occured to me! "Who are all these people and where did they come from??"

There are an awful lot of people here that I do not know!! That is my fault and I apologize! Welcome all of you! I know that a few people have been working very hard to make "newbies" feel welcome! I have not done my part! The truth of the matter is that I lack typing skills to get around to a large number of people!! But all who come for help should get it!

In case you have not figured it out yet, you are among some of the best people who ever walked this planet!! I am sure a lot of you have been welcomed and some of you are probably wondering " Who are these people who keep sending me messages?" The answer is simple. They are a group of people who have educated themselves on the addiction of smoking! They are people who made commitments to themselves and honored those commitments! They are people who have found a new freedom in their lives and felt compelled to help as many others to that freedom as they can! They are people who, for the most part you will never lay eyes on, who care about you! Maybe more than you care about yourself.

You came here to quit, right? These people will help you every way that they can. They will educate you. They will encourage you! They will hold your hand when you are scared. However, as much as they are willing to do for you, you have to QUIT! If you want to quit, quit!!! Make a commitment to yourself tonight that you will be free of tobacco! Take pride in that commitment, and honor it!! It has been said that "We lie loudest when we lie to ourselves" . Do not lie to yourself! Do not allow your addiction to lie to you!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!! WE WILL HELP!!

My name is Tommy and I am on my 177th day smoke/nocotine free! This site and these people saved my life!! Be kind to the people here because I love them!!!

Today is 200 days later! I still love these people and this site! They saved my life! They will save you and yours!

Tommy

Do really want to quit, and stay quit?????

There are two things you must do!

#1. Grow a backbone where your wishbone is!  Stop hoping, and trying, and wishing! Just get it done!!

#2. Make sure that your desire to quit excedes your willingness to accept defeat! You can do this! We will help!!

HOW ARE YOU SLEEPING???????

Posted by pir8fan Jan 9, 2011

Years ago a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farms along the Atlantic. They dreaded the awful storms that raged across the Atlantic, wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops. As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received nothing but refusals. Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age, approached the farmer.
"Are you a good farm hand?" the farmer asked him.
"Well, I can sleep when the wind blows," answered the little man.
Although puzzled by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help, hired him. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk, and the farmer felt satisfied with the man's work.

Then one night the wind howled loudly in from offshore. Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and rushed next door to the hired hand's sleeping quarters. He shook the little man and yelled, "Get up! A storm is coming! Tie things down before they blow away!" The little man rolled over in bed and said firmly, "No sir. I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows."

Enraged by the old man's response, the farmer was tempted to fire him on the spot. Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm. To his amazement, he discovered that all of the haystacks had been covered with tarpaulins. The cows were in the barn, the chickens were in the coops, and the doors were barred. The shutters were tightly secured. Everything was tied down. Nothing could blow away. The farmer then understood what his hired hand meant, and he returned to bed to also sleep while the wind blew.

As we learn to live life without cigarettes, we must read and understand what is ahead for us! We must prepare for the storms that will surely come to our lives! We must make our preperations and have confidence in them! If you have not already done these things, now is the time!
I hope you all will be able to sleep when the wind blows!!!!!!!               Tommy

Take a whiff of this!

Posted by pir8fan Jan 8, 2011

This week the 112th congress convened! In another monumental failure of government, they neither introduced, voted on, nor passed any legislation requiring the American public to smoke! On this same day they also failed to pass legislation requiring us to eat horse manure! By these failures, the government grants us tacit approval to make these choices for ourselves! Therefore, partaking of either of these substances is offically a personal decision!

In view of this, we must stop blaming others and take personal responsibility We are not victims of the government, the tobacco companies, or any other horses ass! We are victims of our own decisions! Wake up this morning and smell the coffee!

Yesterday!

Posted by pir8fan Jan 8, 2011

Yesterday, Thomas paid tribute to "Collateral Kindness"! Thank you my Friend! This is a phrase that I coined back in April. It is a phenomenom that occurs at this site that spreads help to all who seek it! I thought it would be good to post the original blog so that all could see where it came from! I hope this is useful to someone today!

Pardon me

I hate blowing my own horn (but not bad enough to stop myself) So here goes!!! In a comment on someone blog the other day, I coined a new phrase. After giving it considerable thought, I realized that it defines what happens at this site. We all know that in war you drop a bomb that blows up its intendes target. That is good! Anything else it blows up is called " Collateral Damage ". It is an unintended consequence.

The phrase I coined the other day was " Collaterial Kindness ". You see it here everyday!! People come to this site everyday under the guise of learning how to quit smoking. I say "HORSEFEATHERS". There are a lot of folks here that will tell you how to quit! Don't put one in your mouth, and don't light it!! We all already know how to quit.

What we come here looking for is self esteem, confidence, reassurances, friends and confidants that understand us and what we are going through. We are looking for someone to beleive in us and help us beleive in ourselves. Some come not really caring about themselves, because they are not sure anyone else cares about them. People come here looking for pride, because somewhere along the way they have lost it. People come here looking for their identity, because they have lost it. I am sure you can add to this list, and I could go on for quite a while.

All of the things people come here looking for are here. Whatever you need, just ask, someone is willing to give it to you. It may be a kick in the seat of your pants or a pat on your back, two things very close together, yet a long ways apart. Some of the kindest people on earth call this site home! People come here and find what they need! Then a strange phenomenon occurs. People suddenly start passing that help on to others! Collatreial Kindness!!

People came here looking for help. When they found it, they started giving it away! Unintended consequences!! And one day these poor broken people, who came here looking for help realize, they brought their own help with them. They had the power to do it all along. They just needed someone to tell them to click their heels together three times and repeat "There is no place like home"     And they all lived happily ever after!!!!     The End

New Here???

Posted by pir8fan Jan 6, 2011

If you are new here I just want to point out that one of the best things about this site is what I call "Collateral Kindness"! That is the opportunity we have here to help ourselves by helping others! With that thought in mind, I am re-posting a blog I wrote last May! If there is something there you can use, please take it!

Who did you touch!!

May 20, 2010 by pir8fan   Comments (13)

Who's life did you touch today? How did you change the future for someone you don't even know? Do you know? Odds are you don't! One of the miracles of this site is the way we share info with each other. Who does not love that feeling when someone tells you that something you said or did made their life better? There is an instant bond, and you want more of that feeling. It is the "Collateral Kindness" I have spoken of. Here we occasionally get the chance to get that feedback!

But, what about when you are not here? What small act of kindness did you show someone today? Who else saw it?  That lady that you smiled at and said good morning to, what burdens did she carry? Had she lost all faith in human nature? Did you restore that? Was she planning something tragic? Did you prevent that? I don't know! Who else did you come in contact with today? How did you change their life? Are the people you met today better off because they met you, or worse? What seeds did you sow today? How do feel about reaping what those seeds produce?

Did you give everyone you met today the best you that you were capable of? I hope you did!! I hope I did!! We are not going to get much feedback from the rest of the world. It has been said that the great Joe DiMaggio was once ask why he hustled so hard on a play late in his career when his team was way ahead. He replied by waving to the crowd and saying "There may be someone there who has never seen me play before". I pledge to give everyone the best me I can be from this day forward! And I will not smell like smoke!

FOCUS and DETERMINATION!!

Posted by pir8fan Jan 2, 2011

Welcome all you new comers! In the future you will often hear me tell you to keep your Focus!! Never lose your Determination! This comes from a blog I posted on March 5, 2010. I ask your indulgence as I re-post for those who may draw inspiration from it!

As Promised!! Who is this guy and why am I reading his blog??/

March 5, 2010 by pir8fan   Comments (12)

Good afternoon! Today is day 64 for me. I hope everybody is doing good with their quit.

I am going to answer the second part of the question first. Why are you reading my blog? It is because I have learned some things. I am about to share those things with you and at the risk of sounding pompus I am going to give you some tools to help you not only keep your quit, but improve your very life.

As I read the various blogs I find everyone looking for just a little more than help with kicking a nasty addiction. There are loud screams and soft cries from people with varing levels of despiration. Today I would like to share with you two stories that I have encountered that demonstrate FOCUS and DETERMINATION.

The first is about a lady named Trudy. In 1925 she dreamed of becoming the first woman and only the sixth person to swim the English Channel. She made her plans until the day she set out in pea soup fog to make her dream a reality. She swam with all she had for as long as she could, but finally had to give up. She was pulled aboard a boat and latter discovered she was only 1/4 of a mile from the shore. She realized that she could have made it if she had known how close she was. Her attempt to live her dream was crushed because she could not see how close she was. In 1926 Gertrude Ederle went back on a clear day and became the first woman to swin the English Channel. This time she could see her goal. Her ability to focus on the shore helped her reach dream. And she did it more that 2 hours faster than any of the men who preceded her.

My second story is about a man more well known. His name is Sir Edmund Hillary, The first man to reach the summit of Mt. Everrest, most know his fame for this accomplishment, few know it was his second attempt. His first attempt was a failure. But the man was not a quitter. Two months after his failure while giving a speech at the base of Mt.Everrest, Sir Edmund Hillary shook his fist at the mountain and proclaimed " I will get you next time, you are as big as you will ever be, but I am not done growing!" The rest is history.

For the second part of the question, Who is this guy? Nobody. I was at one time one of the best in-home sales people in the country. I made the decision to risk everything I had to save a franchise that I found out too late did not want to be saved. So I lost everything. Then cancer, then heart attack, then two torn Achilles tendons. I think I have found the bottom. BUT, today I start over. I will go forward with the focus of Ederle, and the determination of Hillary. I will prove that the bottom is just a place to bounce from.

I hope there is some imspiration here for everyone. Do not loose your focus!! Keep your determination!!!

What a ride!

Posted by pir8fan Jan 2, 2011

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was part of yesterdays bittersweet trip! A day of celebration started with a countdown to my entrance into The One Year Club! I am excited to be here! And I want to thank Sootie for saving that valuable seat next to hers for me! Sootie, thank you for always being my OAK!

Thank you to everyone who brought food and good thoughts to the party! Thank you to all who have helped me through the first year of this wonderful journey! A special thanks to Sheri, who saved my quit when I was at the lowest point of my life! She was the first responder that gave me a reason to go on with my quit. I will alway owe her! But I owe all of you as well. You taught me I could be happy with my quit and never gave up on me until I was! A special nod to James! There is no way to acknowledge all the people who have helped me! I will say that by being here and giving me the chance to help myself through "Collateral Kindness" you have all made me a better, smoke free person!

Then the party ended with the sad news of Brenda's Mom passing away! Let us all keep Brenda at the fore front of our thoughts and prayer! There will be other parties and good times again! Today my thoughts and prayers will be with Brenda! Love you Brenda!!!

Once again thanks to all!
