Breathing Problems

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 31, 2020

Just a quick post for today.

I am having difficulties breathing today.

I have called the doctor and am waiting on a call back from them.

Hopefully it is nothing major.

Take care and be well my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Country music lost another star yesterday. Joe Diffie passed away from complications of the Carona Viris,

Rest in peace Joe.

You will be missed.

That Danged George !!

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 29, 2020

I went down to the camel pen this morning to check on them.

What I found was not what I expected.

I found several of the female camels staring out in the direction that George camel always left in.

I have caught him quite a few times down there at the pens.

On closer inspection, I found most of the girls are "in a family way".

Marilyn.H.July.14.14. you can tell George he is going to be a daddy several times over.

I am sure of at least twelve.

Guess he thought this was how he could do his part !!!!

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Jerry was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, “If I were any better, I would be twins!”

He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, “I don’t get it! You can’t be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?”

Jerry replied, “Each morning I wake up and say to myself, ‘Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.’ I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.”

“Yeah, right, it’s not that easy.” I protested.

“Yes, it is,” Jerry said. “Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It’s your choice how you live life.”

I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business; he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of  the bullets still in his body.

I saw Jerry about 6 months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, “If I were any better, I’d be twins. Wanna see my scars?”

I declined to see his wounds, but did ask what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. “The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door,” Jerry replied. “Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live.”

“Weren’t you scared? Did you lose consciousness?” I asked.

Jerry continued, “The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency rom and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, ‘He’s a dead man.’

“I knew I needed to take action.”

“What did you do?” I asked.

“Well, there was a big, burly nurse shouting questions at me,” said Jerry. “She asked if I was allergic to anything. ‘Yes,’ I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breathe and yelled, ‘Bullets!’ Over their laughter, I told them. ‘I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.”

Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything.

You have 2 choices now:

1. Disregard these words and continue your life.

2. Embrace these words and try to live your life with a positive attitude every day.

I hope you will choose 2.

I received this from a friend many years ago.

At that period of my life, I was suffering from a severe depression. She thought that this might aid me in putting it behind.

It didn't totally do that, but, it did help be get through that period.

In this time of our world's battle with this devastating virus, I hope that this will help others as it did me.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

It has come to the attention of the Sheik that C. Vid is not alone.

He has brought his entire clan with him.

They have spread across the world in an attempt to harm everyone.

We don't have an accurate count of the member of his clan, so be very wary of strangers.

The Sheik and I are in conference now to try and establish a plan to deal with this bunch.

At this time the following are recommended highly .....

Spread out .. it's harder for their poisons to be passed along to others.

Wash your hands frequently .. they place their poisons on everything.

Please respect others needs and do not hoard supplies ... they are in short supply right now.

You can't eat TP so take only what you need. (Even Scorpion Venom Sauce doesn't help the taste.)

Other recommendations will be posted as they are available.

Take care my fellow travelers.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

New Threat

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 26, 2020

I arrived back at the mountain this morning.

The cook at Carp's Cave was very happy with the haul of vipers and scorpions that I brought back.

I was told that they would prepare a special dish with them.

As I was leaving there, a messenger arrived with some troubling news.

It seems that Nic has recruited some help to try and break down the travelers on their journey.

He hired someone by the name of C. Vid to assist him in his plans.

I have been hearing some stories about this Vid character and none of them have been good.

Keep a very sharp eye out for this guys as I am told he sneaks up and strikes very hard most of the time.

I hear that he goes after your lungs to steal your breathing capacity.

He causes even more damage to those tissues and weakens them further.

He belongs in the same place as Nic and the rest of that gang.

I think Nic plans to swoop in afterwards and try enslaving you again.

Steer clear of this guy as you do with Nic and all the others.

Be very careful in your travels out there my friends.

Be safe in your journey.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Culprits Found

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 25, 2020

I just received news from the Sheik.

The culprits that were lying in wait for travelers have all been found.

All of them have confessed to their plans after enjoying the "tender mercies" of the Sheik and his Bedoin.

He told me that he has contacted the Sultan about these men.

The Sultan owns many mines in the North.

He mines copper, gems, and many other substances from the mountains there.

His largest mine is a sulfur mine.

I am told that they get around a ton a day there, if not more.

The Sultan refuses to use machinery to do the mining in any of his mines.

Nothing but men enter those mines.

The Sheik sent another message that the Sultan is sending men to pick up the miscreants that are in the Sheik's custody.

They are to be taken to the sulfur mine and put to work there.

You do not need to fear their return to here.

They will be placed in chains and sent to live in the mines.

They will never see the light of day again.

They will now eat, sleep, work, and live deep in the sulfur mine.

As always, be very careful in your travels out there.

You can make this journey if you keep a sharp lookout for Nic and his gang.

They will do their best to capture you, either with ambush or traps.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Great Spirit....

You who are the Creator of all things...

Hear the cries of this one that is your servant.

I burn the Sacred Woods and send Smoke from the Sacred Plants.

Let it carry my voice to you that you may hear.

You know of the troubles surrounding us at this time.

Give wisdom to the Healers that now work to chase the evil spirits of this sickness away.

Show them what they need to know at this time of need.

Touch the hearts of those that watch members of their lodge sicken.

Give them strength to keep them at this time.

Touch those that have been attacked by these evil spirits that they may overcome this sickness that has been inflicted on them.

Touch the lodges that have known loss at this time.

Comfort those that have remained her as someone in the lodge has walked the Hanging road to the Beyond Lands.

Strengthen them in their hours of sadness.

Give wisdom to the leaders that they may make decisions that benefit all the nations.

Touch their hearts that they may have care for every member of the village.

Teach them to have mercy for all.

Touch each one in the village.

Soften hearts that are in need that they may care for their fellow villagers.

Show them how they may help others.

Be with all in the way that each has their need.

I, Soaring Eagle have made these cries to you.

I am finished....

I speak no more.

News From The Sheik

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 23, 2020

A messenger arrived this morning from the Sheik.

The people from the camp scattered in all directions when they vacated the camp.

His Bedoin captured one of them and brought him before the Sheik.

After some persuasion, this guy finally told the Sheik what they had been planning.

We were right that they were planning to ambush all travelers on the trail.

As I have said many times, Nic is never going to give up on recapturing every person that has escaped his addiction.

He has some terrible things planned for you if he can recapture you and get you addicted once more.

His "gifts" are devastating for your body.

Cancer, COPD, PAD, Coronary, Artery Disease, Heart attack, and many others.

Be ever watchful for his traps and his gang members.

Travel safely my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Empty Camp

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 22, 2020

Reinforcements arrived during the night.

A very large group of Bedoin heeded the call and came to aid the Sheik and myself.

We sat in the tent and made our plans late into the night.

At dawn, we sent out a scout to gather information so we could finalize our plan of action.

He just arrived back at camp with news.

Nic's bunch has left.

They abandoned everything and melted away into the night.

Their camp is totally devoid of men.

The Bedoin stated that he thought they had left right after dark had fallen.

They lit a fire and melted away a few at a time.

The Sheik says he will try to pick up their trail and deal with them.

I will continue on towards the mountain with my load of vipers and scorpions.

Keep a sharp watch my friends.

You never know where Nic or his men will pop up and try to destroy all your hard work.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Awaiting Forces

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 21, 2020

The Sheik arrived this morning telling me that he had received my message.

He was already on his way to here as a Bedoin had already reported a gathering of Nic’s forces here.

He told me that a large group was setting up to ambush travelers as they passed by.

Their aim is to drag people back to Nic’s compound and enslaving them again to nicotine addiction.

A group of Bedoin should be arriving in a day or a little over with what we will need to counter their plans.

When they arrive, we will develop a plan of action.

Until then, travel carefully my friends.

Keep a sharp eye out for anything that looks suspicious.

Keep people at a distance until you can assure that they are not one of Nic’s thugs.

You can make this journey safely across NML and join those that have traveled the trail before you.

They await you with open arms, food, and cool water.

Remember ……

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Suspicious Fire

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 20, 2020

Early this morning, I spotted a fire off in the distance. It was located where it could see the trail with ease.

A Bedoin was on my travel path, so I sent a message with him to the Sheik.

I suspect that one of Nic's men is watching the trail for travelers to try to lure off the trail.

I am going to stay here in the area and keep watch.

When the Sheik arrives, we will investigate closer.

Be wary my friends. Nic will stop at nothing to get you back in his grasp.

He will never willingly let you get away from his addiction.

You have to do everything you can to get away and stay away from Nic and his gang.

I urge you to travel very safely out there.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Life has dwindled down to my house lately. I have not been anywhere except out into my yard a few times since this pandemic began.

It has rained a few days and I have been inside totally on those days. It is raining heavily right now with lightning strikes nearby.

The local grocery has begun a special hour at the beginning of the day for those over 65, expectant mothers, and those with underlying medical problems. Some of the other stores are doing the same.

This is a great thing, but I will rely on someone to bring my things to me.

Am I going "stir crazy"?

Maybe a little, but it's hard to tell since I was never "right in the head" according to my father....  HA-HA!

(Native Spirit Men were thought to be off in the head anyway)

I have books to read and videos I can watch. I have found quite a few show on forensic investigation and many show like 48 Hours.

I will get through all of this without the crutch of nicotine. You all will also. We don't need Nic to share our lives anymore.

Keep up those great quits my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Night Skies

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 17, 2020

I like traveling at night here in NML.

The skies are very clear and there is no light pollution.

The stars hang like diamonds and are very bright.

You also can see more animals about if you are very quiet.

It is very peaceful and relaxing if you will let yourself live in the moment.

Sound carries for miles and you can hear things from miles away.

I have been hearing voices out there.

I think some of Nic's guys are planning something.

Be very careful out there in your travels.

Always watch for the traps and pitfalls Nic and his henchmen have set to destroy your quit.

Stay strong my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Careful Travel

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 16, 2020

After my visit from the Bedoin the other day, I have been very careful in my travel back to the mountain.

I am keeping myself in the valleys between the dunes.

I want to keep my presence away from Nic's forces.

Later today, I will toast some more scorpions and cook another of the vipers.

I will begin traveling at night tonight.

I have heard a few sounds from somewhere across the desert that could be some of Nic's men.

Once again, I urge all travelers to be very careful out there.

Watch closely for signs on traps.

Watch for ambushes.

Be very careful if you are traveling through Relapse Rock, especially around Desolation Point.

The drop there is a long one.

The Bedoin will get word to me of anyone in trouble or if there is a problem along the trail.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Welcome New Members

New here

My Journey

Let's all give them a warm welcome.

Fewer Enemies

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 14, 2020

I met some Bedoin today as I traveled. They told me of a party of Nic's followers they ran across.

This bunch had a large amount of things laid out that could be used to make traps.

They were covered in Tar and Nicotine.

There were other poisons covering a lot these parts.

When they became aware that the Bedoin were there, they tried to attack them.

Since they were outnumbered, the battle was very brief.

The Bedoin said that these guys would not surrender when asked to.

They didn't survive their crazy attack and will lay forever under the desert sands.

The equipment was destroyed and buried with them.

I cannot stress enough the need for vigilance as you journey out there in NML.

Nic and his cronies could ambush you at any time.

The only thing they care about is getting you hooked on their poisons again.

Stay strong in your quit.

Travel safely my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

As some of you know, I worked in a hospital for several years. I assisted at autopsies, worked the ER, performed surgical preps, worked the Radiology darkroom, and other duties.

I saw the things that happen to the human body at autopsies that should have made me quit smoking.

They didn't. The mindset of it can't happen to me was the norm for us those days.

I saw lungs blackened, filled with tumors, and turned to leather.

I saw hearts swollen to 2-3 times normal size.

I saw arteries filled with plaque that looked like cream cheese when examined.

I saw blood vessels in the brain ruptured from wall weakening.

I would invite anyone to search for pictures of these things on the internet.

It took my own severe illness to finally see that these things could happen to me.

COPD, bypass surgery, PAD, and heart failure are a few of the gifts smoking gave to me.

I urge you to throw smoking materials away today. Free yourself from the addiction to nicotine before these things show up at your own autopsy.

Maybe you will be spared some of these sicknesses.

Take the first step today my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Back to the Mountain

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 11, 2020

After cooking a couple of vipers and toasting up some scorpions, I began my journey back to the mountain.

I have heard that Nic is planning some trouble for the quitters crossing NML.

I have sent word to the Sheik to meet me at the mountain to ascertain whether he has heard the same.

If so, we will decide what to do to counteract Nic's plan.

I urge all travelers to be especially careful and watch for traps and anything out of the ordinary.

I am sure that the Sheik will be sending out Bedoins when he gets my message.

Travel safely my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Searching For Supplies

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 10, 2020

The last time I was at the ruins, it was for a different reason.

The Ruins

I returned to them today to obtain a good supply of scorpions and vipers.

I will take them back to Carps Cave and ask them to prepare them in their special way.

I noted that the thugs we buried in the old building had not escaped and are now a permanent part of the ruins.

I did notice that there has been some people skulking around here though.

I will ask the Sheik to have some of the Bedoin keep a watch out here to see if they can discover who is using the ruins and what they are up to.

I am surprised that it has only taken a couple of hours to get a very large supply of scorpions. I have pretty close to 500 very large ones. They should make great skewers and stew.

As to the vipers, I was able to capture about 200. They are very large and should yield quite a bit of meat for the kitchen.

I will ask the kitchen staff if they will dry some of the scorpions and the vipers for trail rations. I think they would be great for me to have on my trips.

I must continue collecting now.

Travel carefully and watch for Nic and his cronies my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

What kind of quit is yours?

Are you fighting your way through brambles, boulders, and darkness?

Are you walking in sunshine and cool breezes?

Full Bloom

As that older post says, your quit can change in a minute.

It can be dark and hard right now, then easy and full of sunshine tomorrow.

I have watched quits go up and down for the last six years.

My own quit has turned many times.

I cannot predict today how my breathing is going to be tomorrow.

Will I be on top of the world, or deep in the depths of a depression?

I can only tell you that you deal with whatever comes your way each day.

Rely on your friends here for any help you might require to resist that big crave.

Learn from their experiences for things that will aid your quit.

Travel safely my friends and always remember ......

Do you have the support to keep your quit strong?

I have seen some people that don't have the support they really need and they stumble and have a relapse.

This is really a sad thing.

We have all been there my friends.

The friend that knows you are trying to quit and keeps offering a sickorette.

The family that continues to smoke in front of you.

The sickorettes and lighter they leave on the stand beside your chair in the living room.

The person that goes out and buys a pack and hands them to you.

Nic is using these people to get you back into his camp.

He can't stand losing even one smoker to the freedom of smoke-free life.

I must remind the new quitters that you have a ton of support right here.

Blog for help in your weak moment before you light that thing.

We will do our best to help you avoid that relapse.

Those that have gone before are asking Creator to give you strength and resolve to see your journey through to the end.

Those of us here are asking Creator for the same for you.

We really do care that you make a successful journey to a life free from nicotine in whatever form you have been addicted to it.

One second, one minute, one hour, one day at a time.

That is our journey to the other side of NML and that new life.

You take the journey one step at a time.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

A Strong Village

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 3, 2020

We that are here are as a village.

We care for each other and do our best to help each one in need of it.

We ask aid for those that are ill.

We do the same for the injured.

We ask for strength for those that are in need.

I humbly offer the following ....

Our Village

I have done this ceremony many times over the last six years.

Creator has cared for my village during that time.

Be well my fellow villagers.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be in your journey.

I wanted to touch on an unfortunate side effect of quitting smoking that sometimes occurs.

I have suffered from a depression disorder my entire life. My family never knew that I was depressed at any time.

Did they know? I can't say.

They just ignored it? Possibly.

I think part of it was from Middle Child Syndrome.

I had one older brother that I knew. Two others died as infants.

I had a younger sister until I was thirteen, then another sister was born.

I was basically part of the wall most of the time.

I dealt with it by immersing myself into books since I couldn't see to play sports.

I tried, but it wasn't to be.

As I lived inside myself I was never really a happy person.

I finally realized the problem when I became an adult and was out on my own.

The disorder would appear at times and then disappear.

I spent several years mired in a depression at one time.

It ended and I was basically OK for quite a few years.

When I had to undergo the bypass surgery, the depression returned.

I was told many heart patients suffered depression.

It seemed to be much deeper this time though.

Through reading, I discovered that some people that quit smoking also have this problem.

I am doing well now and am not having problems at this time.

The following describes it pretty well, though nothing can totally describe it.

Depression Gorge

I have learned ways to combat this disorder now.

I overcome it now whenever it rears it's head.

It sometimes takes a while, but, I overcome.

I wish everyone well in your journey.

Every step you take brings you closer to being free from the death sticks and nicotine that used to control your life.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Building Your Quit

Posted by OldBones-Larry Mar 1, 2020

How are you building your forever quit?

Has it been forged in the fire and tested?

Is it strong?

Will it last?

These are questions that might pass through your mind as you journey through your quit.

Time will tell as to how strong the quit you have made is.

This is one way to look at building a quit. There are as many ways as there are quitters on the trail.

The Smithy

Journey well and build a strong forever quit my friends.
