Fond Memories

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 28, 2020

I have been thinking about the journey across NML a lot lately.

We have many making that crossing right now.

I had several friends that stayed close as I crossed the desert myself.

Old Companions

The journey was made easier by the presence of others.

Help each other along on your journey.

Strengthen each other and lend a hand where needed.

You are never alone on this journey.

Someone is always nearby to hear you if you need help.

Safe journey my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

The Elder

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 27, 2020

There was a man that lived on the edge of the village.

Nobody knew how many snows he had seen in his lifetime.

He lived alone in his lodge as all his family had traveled to the otherlands many seasons ago.

He was seldom seen outside his lodge.

People would visit him with things that bothered them and he would impart the knowledge he had acquired.

Some would sit and think of what he said and then leave.

Others would rise and leave muttering that the old man was crazy.

Few bothered to thank him or acknowledge his words.

This continued for many seasons.

One day the village leader came to his lodge.

He asked the old man why he continued giving advice and knowledge when nobody acted as if his words helped.

They go about their business as if you had never spoken to them. They take your words and act as though they thought of the solution themselves.

The old man thought for a minute then replied that even though his words were not acknowledged, they had been heard.

Lives had changed because he had spoken.

There would always be those that wouldn’t listen or think that your words were theirs.

He then thanked the leader for his visit and said that he must gather herbs for his meat that night.

He was seen walking into the woods with a small container and a digging stick.

Nobody paid anymore attention and none saw him return.

For several days nobody saw the old man.

Finally his lodge was checked, but he was not there.

His fire was cold and it looked as though none of his things had been used for a while.

Few seemed to be alarmed and went about their business.

A search was finally organized for him a few days later.

He was finally found deep in the woods beside a tree.

His soul had left his body, but there was a smile on his old, wrinkled face.

He had been there for many days.

They took him back to the village and prepared him for the afterlife.

Many began asking what they would do without his words of advice.

They walled him into a crack in the cliff and went back to their lodges.

They missed his words and began saying that maybe they should have told him how valuable his words were to them.

We should have told him how his words helped and changed our lives.

We should have thanked him more often for his teachings.

He is gone now and it is too late to tell him.

The old man looked down from the otherlands and smiled.

He had always known that his words were doing good and changing lives.

It would have been nice to hear that this was so.

He was content though.

He had joined the elders that had gone before him.

===================================================

This story has been passed down for generations. When it began is anybody’s guess.

I value what it tells us.

I leave you to find it's meaning for your life and situation.

I wish all a very good day.

Danger

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 26, 2020

Ol' Nic can get you into his trap at any time.

Youngatheart.7.4.12 warn of the dangers of having alcohol every Friday.

Heed what she says.

The following will explain why she post this warning every week.

Downfall

There are other times also that Nic can get to you.

A gathering of friends where someone takes a sickorette and offers the pack while you are saying something. You take one and light it while you are making your point without thinking of what you are doing.

A cigar to celebrate a birth or a job well done.

There are many other cases that can get you back into his trap.

Please be aware of what is happening every minute to protect your quit.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Wisdom From The Past

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 25, 2020

Text from Hehaka Sapa, Black Elk, a great sage and sacred man from the Lakota Sioux, born in 1863 and died 1950.

IT IS WRITTEN:

"I am blind and I do not see the things of this world; but when the light comes from On-High, it illuminates my heart and then I see, for the Eye of my heart sees all things.

The heart is the sanctuary at the center of which there is a tiny space in which the Great Spirit dwells, and that is the Eye. That is the Eye of the Great Spirit through which He sees all things and through which we see Him.

When the heart is not pure, the Great Spirit cannot be seen, and if you were to die in that state of ignorance, you soul could not immediately return to Him, but would have to be purified by peregrination [walking] throughout the world. In order to know the center of the heart where the Great Spirit dwells, you must be pure and good, and live according to the way the Great Spirit taught us. The man who, in this way, is pure, holds the universe in the pocket of his heart."

Because our hearts can see everything, we can and do create the world around us. If we speak it with our lips, it will become reality. May our reality always be peaceful and loving.

==============================================================

May mankind, in time, learn this lesson contained in these words.

I send Peace to all, along with Creator's Love.

In Our Troubled Times

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 24, 2020

In this troubled time in our world, I watch people that are supposed to be mature and wise.

They act as children at their mothers lodge.

They speak untruths, steal from their village, and treat the have-nots with contempt.

A village must always care for it's members.

The speak in both directions is not what a person does. The punishment for doing so used to be severe and permanent.

Stealing from others was never tolerated. You brought your own possessions to the one you took from till they said that they had enough.

These ones that act so shame themselves and their family.

I offer this as a model for life ....

A Wish For Mankind

I cannot speak for others, but, I try to live this every day.

Be well my Brothers and Sisters.

May your lodge be peaceful and full of joy.

May your hunting be always fruitful.

May your heart always know peace.

May Creator watch over and bless each of you.

These are my words to the Nations this day.

I am finished.

I speak no more....

Which Are You?

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 22, 2020

A Fighter, Or An Ostrich?

I have known both types. The ones that ignored the effects of smoking are no longer in my life. Smoking took them out permanently.

The others that work every day to regain are still doing just that. They are trying to live the best life possible now.

I know which I am......

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Success??

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 20, 2020

What makes for a successful Quit?

Several years ago I wrote the following.

I sums things up pretty well.

5 Steps To A Successful Quit

Now, you are probably saying that is a very simplified way of looking at the problem of quitting, and you are right.

It makes it look like it is a simple matter to quit.

As the blog says, it really is simple to quit smoking.

Easy??

H3LL NO !!!!

You will go through some really rough days at the beginning.

Things do get easier the longer you are quit.

You must be wary of the traps that will cause you to relapse though.

The fifth step there is really crucial though.

You must live your quit each and every day to the fullest.

It must become your underlying reason for what you do every day.

Do everything to one purpose. Being smoke-free forever.

Travel well and safely my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

A Prayer To Wise-One Above

I can't think of anything I can add to this for those needing this today ....

Larry

There are many things to do instead of kill yourself with those death sticks.

I read a lot, watch movies, cook, wood carve, and of course, come here.

I invite everyone to add to this list (duplicates encouraged) to give new quitters ideas for their tool kits.

These are a couple of my carvings I have done for some friends and family.

History

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 17, 2020

I am going to revisit a time in my life that was not the happiest I have experienced.

It was the period when I was told exactly how "sick" I was.

From the time I was told that I was living on 20% of one artery I began to think that I was one of the walking dead.

They said that they could fix it easily.

Sure, they could fix the flow but they could not fix the damage to the muscle.

I went into surgery thinking I had seen the last of this world.

When I finally came back to the world, I was surprised to still be here.

After several weeks of being in and out of the hospital I still had the feeling of when was I going to drop out of this existence.

I went through the denial, depression, anger and everything else.

Was I wrong to do so?

Not really. In a way I did pass on. My old life was over.

I had to build a new life and way of doing things.

Then came to diagnosis of COPD, GERD, Barret's, and everything else.

I could have quit everything right then.

Finally a small voice spoke to me.

"Quit being an idiot!! Grab your cojones, pull on your big boy britches and straighten out."

Life wasn't over. I just had to change things to accomodate the limitations of my body now.

A little over six years has taught me how to get around things and live a life that is as full as it can possibly be.

I really hope that what I do with my life now is worthy of Creators plans.

Be well my friends and always remember ....

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Reasons

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 16, 2020

Why should anyone quit using Nicotine in any form.

I'm sure everyone can think of at least one reason.

Whether they act on it or not is another matter.

I myself knew of many reasons to quit and just ignored them all.

I finally had the best reason to throw them away.

Some More Caravan History

As you can tell from that post, I finally dropped my bull-headed ways and did what I should have done many years earlier.

You all found your reason to quit. Stick with your decision and never touch another death stick.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Musings

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 13, 2020

I have had several things running through my mind the last several things.

The first that has really been most persistent is how people think there is a fancy formula to quitting.

There is no set formula!!

I found the following blog worked best for me.

Simple Formula?

I know that people will disagree quitting could be so simple.

I'm not saying it is easy, but this is a great starting point to any quit.

The second thing that has been on my mind is all the idiots out there.

I wrote the following after meeting one of them at the library one day.

Seeing Red !!!!!!

As you can tell, I was EXtremely upset at the time.

I still get a little "hot under the collar" when I think about people like that.

They have no idea what life can be like with the damage from smoking. To say someone should just keep smoking is really the height of stupidity in my opinion!!

That being said, I wish everyone a great, smoke-free day.

Be well and travel the path to freedom safely.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Are You Prepared?

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 12, 2020

Are you prepared to resist and defend against attacks by Nic and his gang?

Have you stocked your emergency Quit Toolbox?

An attack can come at any time.

He will never stop trying to get you back into his clutches.

The following is an example of the lengths he will employ to stop your journey.

Nic O Demon And His Bandits

As they destroyed the oasis supplies, so they will try to destroy your quit.

Keep your weapons close to you and be prepared to repulse Nic's attacks.

You can stop Nic and his bunch in their tracks.

Stay strong in your quit and your journey.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Vigilance

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 11, 2020

I urge vigilance be practiced by every traveler.

Those of you that are still in NML are most in danger.

Nic and his bunch will do anything to get you back into his clutches.

The Fall

Those that have finished your journey across NML are not safe either.

Nic will never stop trying to lure you back into the addiction of nicotine no matter how long you have been free of it.

He wants you back, no matter what he has to do to accomplish it.

Keep a sharp lookout for the traps and lures placed to ensnare you.

Travel safely my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

I see those in need of Creators touch.

Know that this night I enter the lodge to send up Song and Sacred Smoke for these in need of healing, support, comfort, or anything else that is needed.

Warning !!!!

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 7, 2020

I thought that this needed to be posted again.

I don't think people realize the poisons they are taking into their bodies when they smoke.

I only listed a few in this post, but, there are many more chemicals in sickorette smoke.

Warning From The Mountaintop

Be well and travel safely my friends.

The Watcher

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 6, 2020

I have several, but this one is the one that I feel the most.

Is Somebody Watching Over You To Remind You Why You Quit?

I believe that those that have gone before us and are awaiting us in the Ancestor Lands watch over us and come back to guide us.

Creator watch over and guide all as you make your journey.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Is to journey to being smokefree a smooth one?

No, not by a long shot!

It is worth the effort though.

Your body will thank you after you get to the other side of NML, your body has healed some, and the nicotine is gone from your body.

This is from my journey across NML.

I was nearing the end of my trip.

Working Through The Rock Field

Travel safely and carefully my friends.

The journey is worth the trip.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Just One

Posted by OldBones-Larry Feb 4, 2020

Just one more, then I'll quit.

I heard that one so many times since I have thrown sickorettes away.

I know the line well since I said it so many times myself.

That "just one more" finally caught up to me.

I don't think that the consequences from that one more were worth the "pleasure" received.

Here is a post on the subject from a while back.

The Last Nail

Keep your journey and your quit going strong.

I want to see you on the other side of the desert of NML my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.
