Building On

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 31, 2019

As I continued digging out the waterhole today, I found a box buried in the sand.

I was very suspicious about what it was doing there.

When we broke the lock and opened it, we found several vipers inside.

We were very lucky and nobody was hurt. All of the vipers missed as they struck at us.

I shut the lid tightly and sent it with a Bedoin to Carp's Cave. They were quite large vipers, so there should be enough meat for a large dish.

I continue to find stones from the cairns buried in the waterhole.

I have also found several dead animals that Nic and his crew threw in and covered over.

The sands and heat had desiccated them though and kept them from decomposing.

Some of the supplies have arrived, so I set a couple of Bedoin to rebuilding at least one cairn until we have enough stones to rebuild the others.

I sent others to get dried grasses from some of the other oasis to stock here until we can get more sent from the base in the mountains.

I will be glad to get the waterhole dug out so we will have plenty of water for the travelers.

We have harvested some of the dates and are sun-drying them to place in the supplies.

I need to get back to clearing the waterhole, so I will close this message for now.

Travel safely out there my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Work Continues

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 30, 2019

As I began digging out the waterhole last night, I began finding all kinds of junk that had been thrown in to fill it up.

Some I will send to be repaired as they can be used by travelers in their travels. Others will be taken out into the desert and either buried or burnt as they are of no use.

I have been finding streaks of tar and containers of other chemicals buried in the sands choking the waterhole.

The Bedoin will have to destroy these things so they cannot be used against the travelers.

I have looked at the trees and I am sure they will survive the fires that were built to destroy them. There are Dates forming on them and they should begin ripening soon.

I have also been finding some of the missing supplies buried in the waterhole. After they dry out they should be OK to use. Nic's plan to destroy them failed as they were not harmed by the water.

I am also pulling stones from the storage cairns out of the sands as I dig.

Back to work now.

Travel safely my friends and be wary.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Devastation

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 29, 2019

I just arrived at the next oasis to find the reports were true.

There are some major repairs needed here.

I already know that I will have to send for dried grasses from somewhere else to replace what has been burned.

I will send the Bedoin out to collect more stones to rebuild the storage cairns. Some stones remain. but, most were carried away or something.

I think the first thing is to get at least part of the waterhole dug out so that there will at least be some water here for the travelers.

I sent a message to the Sheik letting him know how much needs to be done here. He will send manpower to get things done as fast as we can possibly get it done.

I sent one of the Bedoin that were with me on to Desolation Point to see if it had been vandalized. He will report back with his findings.

I will get to work right now and begin clearing the waterhole.

Travel safely out there my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Destruction

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 27, 2019

A Bedoin just arrived and informed me that the next oasis has been torn apart.

All the cairns have been knocked over and scattered.

The dried grasses were burnt and several of the palm trees are damaged.

He wasn't sure about the waterhole, but, stated that it didn't look very good.

I will be leaving very soon to get to the next oasis.

I will leave some supplies with the Bedoin that are remaining here to complete repairs and restocking.

Be very wary my fellow travelers.

Nic and his cohorts are up to no good out there.

Travel safely.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Restocking

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 26, 2019

I arrived this morning at the next oasis. It is in pretty good shape and will need only minor work.

I set the Bedoins that are with me to cleaning out some of the sand that has blown into the waterhole.

I am refilling the Supply Cairns and repairing those that are in need of it.

Later we will cut down the grasses and dry them for forage.

I see a lot of dates and will dry those and place them into storage for future travelers.

I know that I must work fast to get to the next oasis and stock it.

I want to get to Desolation Point as soon as I can. I want to sweep it for traps and repair any damage that I might find there. It is so dangerous there for the travelers and I don't wish for anyone to fall over the edge.

Back to work so I can get this oasis done and continue on.

I have heard some rumors that Nic is planning something and I want to be ready for it.

Be careful out there my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Al K. Hall

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 25, 2019

As we were returning to the trail this morning, we heard something beyond the next dune.

We carefully worked or way to a point to see what was there.

We saw two characters deep in discussion there.

I recognized them well.

S. Moe Key and Al K. Hall were planning something that they wanted to spring tonight.

As I listened, I heard Al say that he would distract someone so Moe could ambush them easily.

They planned to do this as many times as they could.

We ambushed these two before they could carry out their plan, but, they have brothers out there that want to do the same thing to you.

As Nancy Youngatheart.7.4.12 has told you many times, be very careful going to bars early in your quit.

Be very careful out there my friends. They could be waiting anywhere to pounce on you and ruin your quit.

Travel safely.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

The Trip Continues

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 24, 2019

The Sheik told me that he and some of his men would watch to be sure none Nic's men would dig out of the buried chamber. He said that they would deal with them if they were able to do so.

I don't expect that they will be able to survive long enough to dig out from under twelve feet of sand as it shifts as they dig.

I went back and picked up the trail of the camel train and headed out to catch up to it.

I expect that some of the other oasis will need some repairs as well as needing restocked.

I am pretty sure that I will find them at the next oasis.

Keep traveling my friends and keep a sharp lookout.

Nic and his goons could be anywhere along the trail and very well could have set traps for you.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

6 Years

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 22, 2019

I was checking my mail and some of the other sites I use when I was reminded of something that changed my life forever.

Six years ago I was beginning my journey towards a life free of nicotine.

I wish I could remember that day and the ones that followed. I can't though.

I underwent a twelve hour surgery to bypass blockages in my coronary arteries. They thought it best to keep me in an induced coma in ICU for the next three days, so I have no memories of those first few days.

I was in and out of the hospital for the next month for complications that arose.

Then I found this site. I began my journey in earnest then.

My caravan was born on that day as I was already in NML.

Many of the people here aided my journey with their encouragement.

I had a buddy that was a day behind me. She followed my trail as I followed the trail left by those before me.

Some of the people that helped me so much are no longer with us. I will always treasure the wisdom those people passed on to me.

I want to thank each person that walked with me as I traveled my path to where I am today.

I made my journey as I tell each person that is beginning theirs.

One step at a time.

Congratulations to each and every traveler on your terrific milestone today. Keep your journey going strong.

The caravan continues on ......

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

The Ruins

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 21, 2019

We slowly worked our way into the ruins early this morning looking for the bunch that we had tracked to here.

When we located them, we found that they had dug into a sand dune to a room that had been covered long ago.

The Sheik and I pulled back to discuss what we should do.

We trapped another group here several years ago and just let the vipers take care of them.

I thought we should do the same with this group, but didn't wish to keep a large group of Bedoins tied up here.

We finally decided that the best thing was to just collapse the dune and trap them in the room where they were.

I am sure that there are some of the vipers slithering about that would like to take these guys out for us.

We carefully worked our way up the back side of the dune covering the building and studied where to start a sand slide.

We also sent men to the sides of the area they had dug out to collapse the sides in as well.

When we were ready, we had a line go up toward the top and push the sand.

It began sliding and just gathered force to become a massive slide into the hollow they had created.

The men at the sides did the same.

We moved back from the tops very quickly so that we didn't go sliding down as well.

I would estimate that they have about twelve feet of sand to dig through to escape the tomb that we have just created.

I urge everyone to keep a sharp eye out for the hooligans that associate with Ol' Nic.

They could be hiding anywhere along the trail. You never know if they have set traps along the way.

Be especially wary around Desolation Point in the Relapse Rocks.

Travel safely my friends.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

The Execution

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 20, 2019

Someone captured Nic’s number one thug several months back.

He was jailed and held in tight security.

Since then, prosecutors have been busy gathering evidence for the trial.

Many have come forward to provide evidence and tales of this man’s wrongdoings.

After much thought, it was decided he would be tried as a conspirator instead of the actual perpetrator of murder, maiming, and other crimes.

The trial began last Monday.

Many took the stand for the prosecution.

The things they spoke of were so horrifying, sad, and heart-breaking that I almost couldn’t listen to them.

I saw many on the jury pale at the words being related.

It took three days for the prosecution to present their case.

The defense only presented one witness.

The accused took the stand and blamed everything on Nic O Tine.

He claimed that he had no knowledge of what was going on and claimed total innocence of any actions.

The case was presented to the jury Thursday morning.

The verdict came in less than an hour later.

GUILTY!!!!

The sentence was that he be hung by the neck until dead.

As the hangman was in town, Sentence was carried out this morning.

The trap sprang at 8 AM.

He dropped eight feet and hit the end of the rope. There was a sharp cracking sound and then nothing.

He was declared at 8:12.

He didn’t suffer as his victims have and did.

So ends his story.

There are others out their aiding Nic in his mission.

They need to be caught and tried for their part in his crimes.

This is a work of fiction that has played in my mind many times. No resemblance to any events or persons is intended.

Questions ....

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 19, 2019

I have had questions running through my mind for a very long time.

What would make someone quit smoking forever?

Would seeing a pair of lungs riddled with CANCER make someone quit right then?

Would seeing lungs ruined with EMPHYSEMA make someone quit immediately?

Would seeing a set of lungs BLACKENED and filled with TAR make someone throw sickorettes away?

Would seeing a face disfigured from the loss of a jawbone make somebody stop smoking?

How about someone wasted away from the relentless ravages of CANCER?

These and many more have run through my mind.

I am sure you could come up with other questions yourself.

The problem is, I saw many of these things for myself and it didn't stop my smoking!!!!

Ol' Nic enslaves you so deeply into his addiction, that even these sights will do nothing to make you quit. He places the thought that this could never happen to you in your brain and makes you believe it totally. While you are thinking this, he is strengthening his addiction on you.

One day you become ill and go to see your doctor. You tell them you have had episodes with severe colds and other breathing issues.

Maybe you have had other health issues.

You have a sudden HEART ATTACK!!.

Maybe it's some other problem that requires surgery and your tests pre-surgery unearth something.

These are some of the things that run through my mind at times.

I don't have the answers to these things since they didn't make me stop smoking. If they had, my life might not be as it is now.

Something to think about though....

Keep your quit strong my fellow EX-ers.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Angry??

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 17, 2019

I had a friend stop by this afternoon to visit.

They made a comment that I was just so complacent about the health issues I have had over the last six years. They also said that if it were them they would be mad as hell about things.

I got to wondering if that was how everyone saw me during these times.

After a few minutes I had an answer for them.

No!

I am not complacent about the things I am going through.

I am really p*ssed about these things.

However, I cannot change a single one of them.

I can accept the things that are happening and still be mad about them.

I might seem very calm about things, but, inside I am cussing up a blue streak.

It is acceptable to be mad and upset about what sickorettes have done to our bodies.

I had to choose between letting anger control me, or accepting things for what they are.

I chose to not let anger and bitterness control me.

I deal with these things and go on.

I will make the most of what I have and go on.

Just one more thing in my journey.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Doctor Visit

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 16, 2019

Just returned from my primary care doctor's.

I have a couple of small lumps that needed to be looked at.

The one in my groin she thinks is just an inflamed lymph node as it is shrinking away.

The one on my wrist however is of more concern.

She said it is an inflamed ganglion. As it is growing, it needs to be removed.

She will be setting up an appointment with the specialist's office for me.

If it must be, it will be.

Just another doctor to see ....

Reminding all to travel safely and watch for Nic's traps. They can be set anywhere along the trail. He is fighting every day to get you back into his clutches.

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 15, 2019

I just got back from returning the NOC-Oxy meter to the hospital.

The copy of the raw dump looks pretty good.

I had a few low oxygen periods, but, they didn't last for very long.

There were a few low pulse periods also, but, nothing that went into alarming levels.

May this day find you well my friends.

Travel the trail safely and watch for Nic and his traps.

Enemies Abound

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 14, 2019

As I was finishing work and restocking at the oasis, the Sheik and a group of his bedoins arrived. The had reports that a large group of Nic's followers were gathering close to the abandoned ruins where we had trapped some of his followers about a year ago.

I sent the camel train on ahead to the next oasis with instructions to repair and restock. I told the men I sent to continue along the trail doing this until I rejoined them.

As we came within sight of the ruins I found the reports to be true.

There was a large gathering of Nic's minions there. They are surely planning a large assault on the travelers along the trail.

The Sheik and myself are listening to suggestions from his men and discussing what the best plan of action is.

==============================================

You should do this in your own quit.

What is your plan if Nic and his buddies attack your quit?

Look around your own life and spot the enemies he has planted to try and destroy your quit.

Have you stocked your quit toolkit well? Do you have the tools you need to resist his attacks?

Be wary and travel safely my friends.

Repairing

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 11, 2019

I arrived at the first oasis to find that there were some repairs that needed to be made.

I will work here for a few days and get the waterhole dug out again. There is water, but, the pool is filling with sand again.

I will also need to cut up some branches that have fallen. I will also gather the camel dung and get it stacked.

The grasses here are tall enough to cut and dry for forage, so I will also do that before I continue on.

When all that has been accomplished, I will restock the supply cairns and depart for the next oasis.

Keep a sharp watch out my friends. I have heard that Nic's bunch has been prowling around.

Travel safely. Everyone is waiting to welcome you at the end of the trail.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Back to the Trailhead

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 10, 2019

After a great breakfast at Carp's Cave, I began my trip back across NML to the trailhead.

The camel train is loaded down with fresh supplies to leave along the way.

I will refill every stone storage cairn at every oasis with fresh supplies.

I will also be leaving a lot of large clubs at each one.

I have received no news of any new activity from Nic and his bunch, but, keep a sharp eye out for anything that looks suspicious. If you see anything, tell the next Bedoin you meet and her will send the message along to either myself or the Sheik.

I will see you along the trail my friends.

Travel safely.

Spiro Results

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 9, 2019

I received the results for this Spirometry today.

All in all, it looks good.

As expected, I did lose some lung volume. It was in the expected range for aging though.

I did lose some more usable space according to the CT along with the new nodule that was found.

She said all the numbers look good though.

I think the next thing up is the Gastric Scope in December for the Barrett's.

Travel well my friends and watch the trail closely.

I just returned from Cancer Screening and a visit with my Pulmonologist.

I have a new nodule in my Left lung. She said it isn't large so we will just keep an eye on it for now.

I have to schedule a NocOx study to see if I need more Oxygen at night.

Keep traveling my friends.

Supplies

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 6, 2019

I stopped at Carp's Cave on my way up the mountain yesterday afternoon.

They told me they had a fresh pot of Viper Stew.

I had a large bowl with some Fried Scorpion Tails on the side.

That was a very filling meal and one of the best I have ever had.

I could tell that the viper was fresh.

I am now preparing for another trip to the trailhead to return camels for the travelers yet to come.

I will be dropping supplies at the caches at every oasis.

The Sheik and his men are scouring the desert checking for Nic and his bunch. He told me that they had been finding lots of traps out there.

Keep a sharp watch for traps along the trail my friends. Nic could have had them set anywhere.

Be especially careful in the Relapse Rocks and at Desolation Point. One wrong step could send you over the edge there.

I must finish packing supplies.

I leave in the morning to cross NML one more time.

I will be watching for everyone on the trails.

Travel safely my friends.

Desolation Point

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 5, 2019

I was talking to someone the other day and discussing the quit journey.

I said something about Desolation Point and they asked why it was called that.

I explained that I had called it that because it was located deep in the Relapse Rocks.

Many quits are destroyed by depression.

People feel so desolate that they pick up a sickorette to deal with their feelings.

I know that feeling very well myself, as do some others here.

Depression can rear it's head when you are breaking your addiction to nicotine.

I dealt with it so much more while quitting than I usually had to.

I made it past Desolation Point without relapse, you can also.

I encourage anyone that deals with this to find help to make it through this while quitting.

As always, I wish everyone safe journey.

Be wary of the traps Nic has set to entrap you and get you back into his grasp.

You can make it across the desert of NML safely.

Take your journey one step at a time.

One minute, one hour, one day at a time if you must.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Full Bloom

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 2, 2019

I have been receiving reports from all over from the Bedoins.

Everywhere across the desert, there is growth and blooms.

Vibrant colors decorate every oasis and the pools of water are full.

The rains have awakened everything across the landscape.

A quit journey is very much the same.

For a while the trip is dark and drab. Then something can happen and lift your journey into the light.

I wish everyone good journey.

Watch for traps along the way.

Stay on the trail. It is well marked with the tracks of those that have gone before you.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.
