Still in the Gorge

Posted by OldBones-Larry Jan 29, 2019

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am holding my own, though still where I was.

I will continue to work on getting out of this so I can return to where I feel I need to be.

As I tell others, so I must do myself.....

One step, and then another, will get me (and you) where we want to be.

Depression Gorge

Posted by OldBones-Larry Jan 26, 2019

I just wanted everyone to know that I am still here.

I haven't been posting a lot and probably will only be reading for a while. I will comment if I feel I can contribute.

I can safely say that my quit is not in any danger and that Ol' Nic will not pull me back into his Nicotine Prison.

I am revisiting a place on this journey that I had hoped to never see again.

It is called Depression Gorge and is located close to and just before the Relapse Rocks.

I like several others suffer from Depressive Disorder. Right now I am battling another round.

The worst I have suffered in close to 10 years.

I ask you all to know that I am with you in spirit, if not in words.

I hold you all in my heart, and in my thoughts.

One step at a time will get me through this as it always has before.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

On this day I wish to share something from the Ancient Ones.

Since time began, they have wished peace on this world. Men would not pay heed to this until the time came for them to walk the Hanging Road. Then they too could see what the Ancients were talking about.

So, on this day, I wish to pass on a wish for all men to live in peace and brotherhood.

May all men come together and become as one on this our Earth Mother.

I have seen a couple of posts where someone has said they were a failure....

That is "stinkin' thinkin'" my friends. You did not fail.

The only way you will fail in this journey is if you just plain give up and stop trying to quit smoking! Are you willing to get up, dust yourself off, and begin the journey once again?

Then you are not a failure!!

You suffered a slip in thinking because of the addiction to nicotine.

Ol' Nic is a strong character. He is also a conniving a$$ that will do anything to keep you in his clutches.

Fill your quit toolbox with the weapons you need to reject Nic's lure and hold.

Use gum, hard candies, cut straws, a lemon, put your head in the freezer or anything you can think of to kill the crave.

This journey cannot be made in one day. If it could Nic wouldn't have any prisoners to his poison.

A journey is a series of steps that take you somewhere.

The same with your quit journey.

Take things one second, one minute, one hour, one day at a time.

You will get to the other side of NML that way.

I know you can do it!!

Ask for help when you need it and I will promise that people here will do their best to help.

One step, and the another, will get you where you want to be.

I Miss You My Friend

Posted by OldBones-Larry Jan 15, 2019

You went out of my life several years ago. There is a very large empty space that you used to occupy.

I miss the times we had together. The quiet moments that belonged to us alone. The times that laughter filled the air. The many hours spent remembering past things.

You were always there when I needed you. You helped me get past many hard moments.

I remember your wise words given to me with love.

I am keeping them away from my face.

I am still walking the trail that you encouraged me to take those many years ago. I continue to pass on the help you gave me to others in need of that help.

I hope that you can see and are happy with the trail I follow now.

I miss you every day my friend.

One day, we will meet again in the Ancestor Lands.

Rest well my dear friend.

You are missed greatly by many people.....

I encourage everyone to read this woman's words. Many times she has helped me with her words and example.

She was TheOldGoat-Joan-10-21-1994  and my dear friend....

Remember her with me and keep her memory going please.

Words From The Past

Posted by OldBones-Larry Jan 15, 2019

I left the caves earlier with renewed commitment to helping in the desert.

While I was meditating, I got the feeling that my dear friend would like me to pass on something she had told me many times.

"Keep them away from your face, you can't smoke them that way."

The Old Goat (Joan) spoke these words to me many years ago. I wish I had heeded them at that time.

I am sure she watches each of the travelers and rejoices at their success.

Many times during my quit journey those words have echoed in my mind. I will carry them with me for many years to come.

I will finish packing the caravan so we can leave soon.

Until then, travel safe and keep a sharp eye for any traps or ambushes.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

12 Nights

Posted by OldBones-Larry Jan 12, 2019

I began BiPAP therapy 12 nights ago. Tonight will be the 13th night.

I seem to be having better nights since I got the machine. The other night, I actually slept close to 11 hours. I haven't slept that long in years.

I think my Oxygen saturation is staying closer to where it should be also.

Getting used to the mask has been really fun though. I have several places that are very sore from the pressure points. I know it will get better though as I get more used to the mask being on.

I will close for tonight and wish you all a great night.

Keep those quits going strong my friends. You can finish your journey and enter the other side of NML free from Nic's influence.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be,

I just finished a terrific meal down in Carp's Cave.

The Viper Stew with Dumplings was superb. I have never had a better stew than this and highly recommend it to everyone.

I am having a caravan packed with supplies to restock every oasis along the trail. The resupply caravan grows with each trip. I will have more than 100 camels packed for this trip.

I have been told that clubs are in short supply at the oasis to replace those broken from use by travelers. I am taking a large supply with me.

Extra tents are also being loaded to leave at each stop.

I will be leaving plenty of foodstuffs in the supply caches also.

Fodder for the camels is being packed as well.

Plenty of other equipment will be left as well. All that has been turned in by those that have crossed NML has been cleaned and repaired to be restocked along the trail and at the trailhead.

I will be going up into the caves to restock my own supplies.

I have to remember to go into the secret cave to refill my Moses Dust supply.

That last sandstorm depleted what I had with me.

I am headed to The Cave Of The Ancients now.

In this secret burial chamber I will seek knowledge from those that have gone before me.

The Old Goat and her predecessors impart guidance and advise as I meditate in the cave.

I go now to ready myself for this trip.

Travel safely and keep a watchful eye out for traps and ambushes. Guard from the ever present danger from Nic and his company.

Remember what this old caravan master says over and over ....

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Almost There

Posted by OldBones-Larry Jan 8, 2019

I am nearing the edge of NML once again.

It warms this old Caravan Master's heart to see so many on the trail. I look back across the desert and can see a long line of travelers making their journey.

I will be sending a rider back to re-enforce to each traveler to take advantage of every rest area at the oasis that the travelers come to. There are extra supplies to re-stock their food and water, as well as fodder for their camel.

I also encourage everyone to visit Carp's Cave on the trail up the mountain for some very fine food.

The Scorpion Skewers are the best I have ever had.

I sent some Vipers ahead the other day for a big pot of Viper Stew with Flatbread. Nothing better than a fresh bowl of Viper Stew, especially if the Vipers are really fresh.

Travel safely and watch for traps and sandstorms. I will be looking forward to seeing you all on this side of the desert.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

1900 days ago, I began this journey to the land on no sickorettes.

It began on a surgical table with a triple-bypass. I'm not even sure that the doctors were sure I would come off of that table alive.

They kept me in a chemical coma in ICU for the next three days. I was moved to a room then and was still out of it for another day.

I spent the next week recovering enough to go back home.

I was home all of one day and had to return to the hospital. I had Pneumonia.

A week later I returned home again.

A day and a half later I returned to the hospital. They thought I was having another coronary infarction.

I was there about four days and returned home again.

I was in and out of the hospital for a year of and on for problems.

Through all of this, I was smoke free.

One month after my last smoke I found this site. With the help I received here, I remained smoke free. It wasn't easy, but my quit stayed going strong.

I found my journey through NML was best identified in my mind as traveling across a desert. The Caravan was born then.

I decided that the Caravan would continue after I made it across after I was told by so many that my trip was helping them make their journey. The Caravan has continued to this day so that others might find their way across that desert.

I have to thank so many that helped me along the way. They helped me stay on the right trail and make it through the pitfalls along the trail.

Some are still here, others have moved on in their journeys.

That being said, mount your camel and we will begin the journey once more.

Stay strong and keep your eyes poen for the traps set by Nic and his crew.

Stay on the trail that has been marked out and traveled by so many before you.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

I have been moving along the trail towards the mountain.

I have passed several travelers as they work their way along the trail.

Last night I watched the sky as one year faded away and a new one arrived. The sight was magnificent as it reminded me of all those that have journeyed across the trail. The stars shone brightly in the sky.

I send my best wishes for this new year to each and every traveler on the trail across NML.

To those that are coming to the trailhead to begin their journey, I send you best wishes also along with the promise that there are many here to support you and aid you in your journey.

To the new arrivals on this journey to being smoke-free, I send the same promises and wishes along with encouragement to stay strong in your journey.

To the elders, I send my thanks, my best wishes for the new year, and my deepest affection. I made my journey with your encouragement and support, for which I am forever thankful.

Continue the journey my friends. It is so worth the tests along the trail. Be safe and forever watchful of Nic's traps.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.
