Come Visit My Grave

Posted by OldBones-Larry May 29, 2017

Come Visit My Grave ©
Written By James D. Rolfes
I am a Veteran under the sod.
I’m in good company, I’m up here with God.
Come to my grave and visit me.
I gave my life so you could be free.
Today is Memorial Day throughout this great land.
There’s Avenues of Flags, Parades and Bands.
I can hear music, the firing squads and taps.
Here come my comrades, the Legionnaires, the Blue caps.
One of them just put a flag on my stone.
Some day he’ll have one of his own.
Some think of this day as just a day free of toil.
While others are busy working the soil.
They say they have plans, other things to do.
Don’t put us aside as you would an old shoe.
Come visit my grave in this cemetery so clean.
This is what Memorial Day means.
There are many of us lying in wake less sleep.
In cemeteries of green and oceans of deep.
It’s sad that for many who fought so brave.
No one comes to visit their grave.
They died so you could have one whole year free.
Now can’t you save this one Day for me?
There are soldiers, sailors, airmen up here.
Who went into battle despite of their fear.
I’ve been talking up here to all of those men.
If they had to do it over, they’d do it again.
Look, someone is coming to visit my grave.
It’s my Family, for them my life I gave.
My wife, I remember our last embrace.
As I left the tears streamed down your face.
I think you knew the day I was shipped out.
I wouldn’t return, your life would be turned about.
There’s my daughter that I used to hold.
Can it be that you’re nearly twenty years old?
Next month is to be your wedding day.
I wish I could be there to give you away.
My son’s here too, Dad’s little man.
Always love your Country, do for it what you can.
There is one thing that really did bother.
Is seeing you grow up without the aid of your Father.
I wish you could all hear me from up above.
That’s a father’s best gift to his children is love.
And what better way to prove my love to the end.
Is that a man lay down his life for his friends.
I see it’s time for you to go home.
Your visit made it easier to remain here alone.
Don’t cry honey, you look too sad.
Our children are free, you should be so glad.
Daughter, thanks for the bouquet so cute.
Thank you son for that sharp salute.
Come again, I forgot, you can’t hear me from up here.
But I know you’ll come visit me again next year.
I hope all veterans are treated this way.
On this day to remember, Memorial Day.

New Addition

Posted by OldBones-Larry May 17, 2017

I just came in to let you all know I have a new grand-daughter. She was born by emergency C-section yesterday afternoon. Last night they flew her to the university hospital because she was 2 months premature and needs some assistance with some lung development and weight.

Mother and her are both doing well. What I always say fits this as it does quitting smoking.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Don't Quit

Posted by OldBones-Larry May 15, 2017

I found this and it hit how this says it all about the quit journey.

======================================================

Don't Quit
Author Unknown
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Almost There

Posted by OldBones-Larry May 14, 2017

I have been traveling night and day to get back to the mountain. Repairs to the trail have gone very well. There has been no major damage that needed taken care of.
The oasis that had been ransacked has been put to rights and restocked.
I have passed many travelers on my journey. I left supplies with many of them as they slept. I stopped and spoke with several to see how their travels were going.
I have sent a messenger ahead to tell Dale at Carps Cave that I should arrive sometime tomorrow. I requested that some Mongolian Beef be ready for me. I also inquired if there were any Scorpion Skewers left. Those are mighty tasty.
After my meal, I will retire to The Old Goat's resting place to meditate. This will help me recharge for another journey. I will then restock with food and supplies and begin another trip. I think I will carry a larger supply of Moses Dust from now on. There seem to be more, and larger, sandstorms lately.
Travel safely, and always remember .....
One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Traveling On

Posted by OldBones-Larry May 10, 2017

As I left Desolation Point this morning, I encountered a sandstorm. I feared for the travelers along the trail. I used some of the Moses Dust and watched the storm just fall away and clear. I will have to remember to re-stock my supply when I get to the mountain.
I have heard that the next oasis has been trashed by some of Nic's band. I sent a message to the Sheik asking that he send a party out to find them. I am hurrying to get there and see what needs to be done to fix the damage.
As I travel along, I have been leaving supplies with some of the travelers. I reminded them about the stores at each oasis and encouraged them to re-supply at each one.
I saw Ima Deer beside the trail earlier. Deer assured me that (she/he?) was watching the trail to assist travelers if needed. I was also told that WhoGnu was around also. I thanked Deer for the assistance and asked that the thanks be passed to Gnu also.
I must continue on now. Travel safe my friends.
One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

At Desolation Point

Posted by OldBones-Larry May 9, 2017

I just arrived at Desolation Point to find @dwwms very close to the edge.

I lit a lantern and began calling to him. I can only hope he hears me and finds a clear view of the trail.

Follow the lantern light until we get past the drop-off. You are doing so well in your journey across the desert.

To those following him, keep to the trail he is leaving. Each traveler makes the trail show even more clearly.
I have filled supplies at each oasis on my way here. I will continue to fill the rest as I travel on.

I have been restless lately and wondering where I am going. I know where I need to go.
I am working my way back to the mountain. I am feeling the need to sit in The Old Goat's cave and meditate on things. Maybe she will let me know what I should do.

I need to recharge that I may continue the work she asked me to do.
One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.
