21 years!!!!

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 22, 2015

I just got off the phone with Joan (The Old Goat). I had forgotten that she had quit on Oct. 21 also.

She has been smoke-free for 21 years now.

That is a major accomplishment in my book. I can only hope to see that anniversary myself.

She did tell me she has been in the hospital for the last couple of weeks. A major bout of lung infection and pneumonia. That also means she will be on oxygen for a while because of the meds and damage done by the infection.

I passed the love everyone here feels for her on to her while I had her on the line.

A Long Journey

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 22, 2015

I received a message from the Sheik that a lot of people were talking about something. After his men walked around a while, they reported that the talk was that I have been on this journey for 2 years now. I doesn't seem like it has been that long from his point in the journey.

When I started, I never imagined this day. I was just a man beginning a journey to try and better my life and possibly extend it a little.

I escaped from Ol' Nic's camp and the tortures he was inflicting on me and began this journey at a crawl. I traveled by night and hid during the days. As I became stronger, I began to travel during the daylight hours.

I got to the edge of the desert called No Man's Land and wondered about this endevor. I continued on though and met each obstacle and trial on NML head on. I succeeded with the help of the other travelers and the messages received from the elders on the other side. They encouraged me each step of the way.

I exited NML and climbed the mountain. The Old Goat gave me a mission. I now fulfill that mission by roaming the desert to rescue and guide travelers across that vast expanse.

I want to thank everyone for the warm messages that were left for me yesterday. They truly warmed my heart. I couldn't have made it this far without each of you beside me.

I return to the desert now to continue on.

One step, and then another, WILL get you to where you want to be.

I know I have a watcher.

Around the time I went for surgery, Wendy's middle daughter lost her 1 year old son. He had major breathing problems from birth because he was delivered prematurely by C-Section because of Placental Abruption.

I know that when Ol' Nic is whispering in my left ear, I can hear that little boy speaking into my right one to remind me why I quit, and to also remind me of how glad he is that I threw those nasty things away.

I know it sounds a bit strange, but, I believe he does come and support me when I have a weak moment.

Something to think about anyway.....

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

New Resident Update

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 17, 2015

Gabriel Lee

19 inches

6 lbs 13 oz

Those are the stats as they were reported to me.

He came home late this afternoon.

I have the great pleasure to announce that there is a new resident in my cave on the mountain.

Wendy's youngest daughter presented us with her sixth child at 1:56 AM today.

She has not named him as yet. He joins his two brothers and three sisters in our hearts.

One more reason I have to never pick up another one of those death sticks.

Traps Along The Trail

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 13, 2015

I thought today was a good time to remind the travelers iin NML to beware the traps Nic and his gang have set along the trail. Whether it be a pit-fall trap, a snare trap, or a deadfall trap. All of them are designed with one thing in mind. To knock you off your camel and your quit.

At the oasis while you are resting, beware the whisper out of the dark. Nic has sent his minions to try and break your resolve and woo you away from your quit.

Be especially careful around the Relapse Rocks. Nic loves setting traps at Desolation Point. We have lost many a traveller there. There is a very long fall there and I know you would not want to go over the edge there.

Stay strong and ignore those soft whispers of the delights a sickorette would grant you. All that dead weed will bring you is shortness of breath, sickness, COPD, Cancer, and many other nasty side effects.

If you see a fellow traveler wavering, help them stay strong and continue their journey. Together you are certainly stronger than Nic and his friends.

Keep traveling my friends and be vigilant always as you travel the trails. Keep your journey free from the slips Ol' Nic wants you to suffer.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Work

Posted by OldBones-Larry Oct 12, 2015

I spent some time yesterday and this morning laying out and preparing a flower/garden bed for next spring.

A lady across the complex sent her children over yesterday to clear the grass from the area. They broke the ground up while I was going to get some supplies to work the ground with.

Today she helped me put in the edging. I think it will be a nice bed.

Next spring I will be able to go out and "putter around" in the area. At least I will feel like I am accomplishing something. I miss that feeling a lot since I can't work anymore.

To all the folks that are still new in their quit journey, keep up the great work you are all putting into your quits!!!!

You are doing fantastic!!!

Remember, the journey of 10,000 miles begins with one small step.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

No Nasty Surprise

Posted by OldBones-Larry Sep 30, 2015

The Gastroenterologist's office called today. They confirmed Gastritis, GERD, Hiatal Hernia, and the Barrett's.

Best of all, no cancers apparent on any of the biopsies.

I have to see him again in 6 months, and he will most likely want another Gastroscopy. I will do anything he suggests, as long as he can prrove it is needed.

Thank you for all the support and good thoughts throughout all these tests. You are the best family I could ask for.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.
