Treat the Earth well:
it was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors,
we borrow it from our children.
-ancient indian proverb

5 Steps To A Successful Quit
1. Decide to quit.
2. Quit.
3. Commit to your quit.
4. Keep your quit.
5. Live your quit each and every day.

Sounds so simple, right?

I won't say it is easy, but the end of the journey is so worth the trials and effort to get it done.

Ask for help before you light it up anytime you need to. You have many friends here that want to help you along the way and see you succeed.

Travel well my friends.

Food For Thought

Posted by OldBones-Larry Aug 14, 2015

So for today: O Great Spirit, Whose voice I hear in the winds, And whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me! I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom.
-Native American Prayer

A Cherokee Legend -

The Wolves Within

An old Grandfather said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a friend who had done him an injustice, "Let me tell you a story.
I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do.
But hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times." He continued, "It is as if there are two wolves inside me. One is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him, and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way.
But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger. The littlest thing will set him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, for his anger will change nothing.
Sometimes, it is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit."
The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which one wins, Grandfather?"
The Grandfather smiled and quietly said, "The one I feed."

Which wolf will survive within you?

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

"Clean"

Posted by OldBones-Larry Aug 12, 2015

I just finished a sweatlodge ceremony.

Great One Above heard your Songs.

Here is how things stand.

The doctor said I was "clean"  after he finished the procedure yesterday. He didn't have to remove any growths. He did say that there is a small area of Diverticulosis, but nothing to worry about unless more develops. I don't need to see him again for 10 years unless some other gastro-intestinal thing comes up.

Nothing turned up in my blood work other than what I reported earlier, so that sounds good.

I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and concerns for me.

All my love and gigantic hugs to all.

The Quit Journey

Posted by OldBones-Larry Aug 12, 2015

I was talking to someone the other day and they asked me how they could quit smoking. I did refer them here naturally. I also passed along many of the things that have worked for us here.

I also passed along these words given me by one of the elders when I was just a small boy ....

The journey of 1000 steps begins with just 1 step.

They didn't see the connection.

I changed what I had been told as follows to help them make the connection.

The quit of 1000 days begins with just 1 day.

Take your quit one minute, one hour, one day at a time.

They began to see what I was getting at with those words.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

Keep Good Thoughts

Posted by OldBones-Larry Aug 11, 2015

This is the day. Please keep good thoughts.

I'm in the middle of prepping for my procedure, so I only have a minute.

I'll pass on any results as soon as I have any.

Great Spirit, You who knows the heart of all men, hear the thoughts I send to the sky worlds on my breath.
I bring the sacred mix for the pipe.
I burn the sacred woods in the hearth.
I bring the sweetgrass and sage bundles.
Know my heart as true.
Guide me as I tread Earth Mother and keep my path straight.
I ask you with humble heart to watch over all who today travel the hanging road to the lands of the ancestors.
Guide them to the hearths of their ancestors.
Fill their bowl with much meat.
May they be happy there.
Watch over those of us that are still in this world you have given us.
Guide us down the right trail.
Smooth it as best you will for our moccasins.
Heal those that are filled with the spirits of sickness.
Make them whole and well once more.
Heal the heart of those that mourn a relative that has traveled the hanging road.
Give them peace.
I, Soaring Eagle, send my cries to you this day with the breath you have given me.
I speak no more.
I am finished.

I had the feeling that someone needed this blog to be re-posted. May that one, or those that are in need of this, find it healing and helpful.

Misc. Stuff

Posted by OldBones-Larry Aug 7, 2015

I received some news yesterday evening that kind of picked me up a little. According to the government, I have been officially disabled since October of 2013. At least now I can feel like I am not a blank spot to the "powers that be."

I just read the blog by marbech. So very true that we think it can never happen to us.

I know I was going through life with my head up my ......... eeeerm ...... shirt sleeve. Then one day, during routine tests to have surgery, I was informed that I was at death's door so to speak.

Almost 2 years later, I am still here, even if my health is not as good as I might wish it were.

The important thing is that sickorettes are no longer a part of my life.

I will look with wonder at all that the Creator sees fit to give me. I will live as though Creator has granted me another 100 years on Earth Mother. Most of all, I will cherish everyone here that works to help stamp out the addiction we all share.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

This is a re-write as the other one disappeared while being posted. more compact and without some of the frilly stuff to soften things a little.

Many years ago I was asked to help with an autopsy.

When the body was opened, the lungs were black and looked like overcooked liver. There were some tumors present.

The heart was triple it's normal size and the arteries were all hard and twisted.

Turns out this person had passed from a major heart attack. They suffered from COPD with all the accompanying damage of tissue loss.

Cancer was also present in those tumors.

I smoked at the time. You would think this might have caused me to stop.

The doctor and I went out and had a smoke when we were finished.

I was in my early 20's and didn't think this could happen to me.

I learned better when I had bypass surgery. I also have COPD.

Forgive me, but all these tests must be getting to me. I haven't thought about this in years.

Keep those nasty things away from your face. Avoid this being you on that table.

One step, and then another, will get you to where you want to be.

If you are on the fence about quitting smoking, these will help you decide. Some are pretty graphic, but they will get the point across.

I want to thank jennifer for her blog about being on the fence as it sparked my mind to look these up.

Catching you all up

Posted by OldBones-Larry Aug 1, 2015

I need to catch everyone up on my tests as was requested.

All the bloodwork that was requested by the doctor is back now. There were a few elevations, but the doctor says they are minor. There is no indication of Prostate Cancer or Blood Cancers. The Monos were slightly elevated, but not seriously.

In a little over a week they are going into my Colon for a look. Cross those fingers friends.

The doc can't determine why I have a low-grade temp elevation all the time. Hope we find out soon. I really hate being so weak and tired all the time.

I'll let you all know more when I find out myself.
