Frantic Day
I did it once
Went to an electronics store
that was enough
went to the parking lot
lit up in the car
I was a smoker then
that time's so far
away
Now I just send cookies or buy gift cards.
I'm practical "let them get what they want."
I know, it takes away some of the surprise
but a worse surprise is standing in line
to exchange something or never using it.
I don't do Black Friday because I refuse to stand in lines I shop online but I've been making a lot of my gifts, as well. Not because I'm cheap, but because it's more personal that way. Cookies are always, always the bestest of gifts!!
if I can find your address (D S's?) I'll ship you a box. I'm going to go shopping for the two ingredients I don't have as soon as my toe heals a little more.

Being one who hasn't yet made even one gift purchase for the holidays, I felt my angst lessen as I read your post Dale jonescarp.aka.dale.Jan_2007...
I now feel more at ease with going the gift card/ cash route; thanks for the revelation that: " a worse surprise is standing in line to exchange something or never using it."

One year, low on funds, I got up and went to a local Walmart about an hour before they were due to open. I couldn't find a parking space, so turned around and came home. Made cookies and crocheted dishcloths instead. Never ventured out there again and don't intend to ever put myself through it now.
Making a holiday door decoration for my eldest and a friend out of different length sticks, hung with twine in the shape of a Xmas tree with a star and and a pinch of greens; cookies for others, a boiled wool bear ornament - bought the bear and am going to embroider holly and berries on it and back it to make a tree ornament for one friend. Still coming up with ideas for others - but I intend to make most of mine.
I think it's the thought that counts!
I started early with homemade pear preserve. I gave some earlier to those who provided the pears and I gave a few jars for gifts for Thanksgiving. Along with a candle and crackers on a wooden tray that may be all a wrap. lol. For my grandkids since they have become of age 26, 21, and 17 years old they prefer MONEY,

I make rolled-thin-so-you-can-see-through-them sugar cookies that are to die for - and they are always treasured by folks who receive them. They take almost a full day to make. Rolling then out that thin takes time, and you have to watch each tray bake because they are done - and almost immediately after burned. I think I may just give THEM this year instead of the usual assortment of eight different kinds. Who needs all those calories, anyway?!

I've never done Black Friday, and never will. The nice thing about getting older is that people expect less. Works for me!
