If you gave the best years of your life to something....



I can't imagine working a very demanding physical job for 32 years and longer

but I did, and I smoked for 40 years. 



It's sort of amazingly awful that we not only chose smoking, 

but, gave it the best years of our lives.

That's water under the fridge which usually means

something's broken and we need a repairman.


I go to the repairman quite often.

Trips to the repairman can run your whole life.


"I wonder what it would be like if I had never smoked?"


Then, I think of the 75,000 people who worked themselves to death building the Panama Canal.They spent the best years of their lives digging a hole in the ground.

Today in labor history: Panama Canal, built by 75,000, opens
