Sometimes I Think."This Could Only Be Happening To Me" Continued

My Neighbor, CONTINUED

about a year ago,  my "neighbor"  found some termite droppings around a couple of her windows and

decided to have her  house fumigated. But who of the many people she called would do it?

she wanted me to meet with each of them at her home when they did their walkthroughs and then she

wanted me to go through their written estimates and help her choose someone.

Well I told her, we could just get someone to tent her home and I could do the repairs.

(I am a general contractor and a carpenter by trade)

So after I spend a bunch of time trying to help her weed through these people, her son says he will make the

decision.   So, all my time was wasted and she had someone else make the repairs.

Of course I received nothing for my time.

Then there was last Thanksgiving

My daughter and I were cooking together and the plan was to let her take the majority of the food home for

her BF and  her after.

This "neighbor" had already told me her grand daughter was coming and they were going out for

thanksgiving.  (She didn't invite herself over thank God)

So, the day after thanksgiving, she calls me and says, "We never got out. Would you cook

Thanksgiving  dinner for us? I'll pay you."

Well I was already burned out from cooking the day before and  I really didn't want to do it but I did.

I went out and spent $22 on the stuff I needed and then spent 6 hours cooking. They enjoyed it immensely

and the next day she gave me $30 for my efforts. (which included the $22 I spent out of pocket)

Hello, My name is Dale. I was quit 18 months before joining this site and had participated on another site during that time. I learned a lot there and brought it with me. I joined this site the first week of August 2008. I didn't pressure myself to quit. HOW I QUIT I didn't count, I didn't deny myself to get started. When I considered quitting (at a friends request to influence his brother to quit), I simply told myself to wait a little longer. No denial, nothing painful. After 4 weeks I was down to 5 cigarettes from a pack a day. The strength came from proving to myself, I didn't need to smoke because I normally would have smoked. Simple yes? I bought the patch. I forgot to put one on on the 4th day. I needed it the next day but the following week I forgot two days in a row I put one in my wallet with a promise to myself that I would slap it on and wait an hour rather than smoke. It rode in my wallet my first year. There's nothing keeping any of you from doing this. It doesn't cost a dime. This is about unlearning something you've done for a long time. The nicotine isn't the hard part. Disconnecting from the psychological pull, the memories and connected emotions is. :-) Time is the healer.
