You might wreck your car

You might wreck your quit

If you over indulge

You could fall in a pit.

A quit is a terrible thing to lose.  Please don't chance it!

I am over 4 1/2 years quit - and I am STILL having one every once in awhile!  In this one, I was trying to create order out of chaos, cleaning  up a HUGE mess and rearranging  furniture in a space too small to fit it.....and I had a deadline to get it done (I may be watching too many "American Pickers!").  I was taking a break and was thinking about a cigarette and actually DID convince myself that just one wouldn't hurt!  During my argument with myself about it, I even recreated how it would taste and feel (and, unlike reality, it was WONDERFUL!).  The dream didn't actually include the smoking.

Remain vigilant, my friends!  While a dream is easy to overlook, the reality is that we will always be addicts!

A WARNING !

How Do I Stop Smoking When Drinking Alcohol?

Alcohol Diminishes Inhibitions ... and Resolve

One of the big problems with alcohol is that it reduces a person's inhibitions. For someone who is trying to quit smoking, reduced inhibitions increase the risk of a smoking relapse. It just doesn't seem so important to stay true to your quit program once you've had a couple of drinks.

Additionally, you will probably be with friends who are smoking, or you'll see other smokers at the bar, making it all the more difficult for you.

Quitting can be done successfully though.  With a plan and some practice, you can recondition yourself away from feeling like you need to smoke while enjoying a drink or two when out with friends.

 THANK YOU, EX TEAM

On the old site, there was a button titled "I Slipped"  with instructions on what to do after you had smoked after quitting.  It made many of us crazy because we felt that it reduced the decision to smoke a cigarette after you have quit to an accident.  We know it's not an accident, but a conscious decision.  I noticed yesterday that the button now says, "Keep Going" with "Reset Quit Date" next to it.

Thank you for listening, and responding, EXProductManager, and folks on the development team!  Please share my gratitude with all involved.

If you are quit, stay that way.

If you are struggling, persevere.

If you are wavering, BLOG!

Celebratin' with corned beef and cabbage is better for anyone quitting smoking!

Seems like there are lots of questions lately about this, so thought it might be helpful to repost the link.

Early Withdrawal Symptoms

I might add that all of these are temporary as your body adjusts to life without the drug.  Do drink lots of water to help flush out the toxins and help speed up the process.  If you are having trouble sleeping, take a nap as you can.

Snow, sleet, freezing rain,

Falling from the sky,

Oh, my!

(and gusty winds, too)

BUT - I'm not smoking over it!

Make it true for you, too!

I think I found the originator of the "100 Things To Do Instead of Smoke" list.   It was actually "101" and it is on a website, verywell.com by Terry Martin.

This is a also a great resource for quitting smoking - lots of good information.

I have edited the version I linked - but not sure it is now correct everywhere.  Hope so!!!

Hang on; it gets easier!

(my daughter had this set up in my bedroom last night - his name is Slacker!)

Please listen to the experience of one of our community members:

"Four years of freedom continued until July 20, 2015 when a celebration of impending retirement resulted in over indulgence in alcohol, and resulted in this foolish person thinking she could smoke one or two cigarettes. This turned into a pack"

I was in the Zurich airport in October, preparing to fly home from my dream trip with my daughter when, much to my surprise (and horror),  I spotted THIS:

I also saw one sponsored by Camel - and I suppose there were probably others.  They still smoke everywhere in Europe.- In Germany, all of the restaurants and cafes had outdoor seating overflowing with smokers, even when it was chilly out.  I imagine they are there when it's cold, too!  There were cigarette machines everywhere  - even attached to the sides of buildings, so zero supervision on the ages of the purchasers.

When I was a smoker, this would have made me happy ---- what a difference a quit makes!

Big Tobacco is still making zillions - disturbing,  isn't it?

Coke

Coffee

Water

Tea

Margarita

Orange Juice

Answer – If you are a nicotine addict, a Margarita should never be in your hand/mouth. Alcohol is a proven quit killer! Do you know how many alcoholic drinks it will take before that voice in your head that “just one won't hurt” starts to sound reasonable? If not, please don't chance it!
