Choose Life!

Posted by Youngatheart.7.4.12 Jan 22, 2017

Choose life!

Choose to get high from the glow of the ocean at sunrise,

Or the honking of the geese flying in formation,

Or a hummingbird hovering over a blossom,

Or the blooming of flowers in the desert in the Spring,

Choose to deal with what life throws at you without smoking!

It IS a matter of life and breath.

Whether you are celebrating or drowning your sorrows, please don't do it with alcoholic beverages.

A quit is a terrible thing to lose.

Update

Well, I have sprained my ankle - but it isn't super swollen - so think that is a good thing.  I can put a tiny bit of weight on it without excruciating pain (unlike last night!).....so I am feeling hopeful.  No sleep last night - thing was throbbimg to beat the band, and didn't want to take heavy duty drugs and then have to get up and navigate during the night.  Living alone sometimes stinks.  I have good friends who are taking care of me - but they aren't available in the middle of the night!!   I think I will stay downstairs tonight - got a wheelchair in, so not so afraid of maneuvering the long distance to the bathroom on crutches in the night.  Just taking care of basic needs is exhaustting, though.

Thanks to everyone who sent their wishes.  It makes a world of difference when you are down to hear from everyone. Please keep the prayers coming.    They are most appreciated!

Nancy

When we count up the toll of smoking, we often count the number of days we have been quit, the number of cigarettes we haven't smoked, the amount of money we saved ---- but not the amount of TIME we wasted before we quit.

I used an average of 20 minutes per cigarette.  When I worked, I had to get to and from the smoking area.  That involved waiting for the elevator twice and the length of each ride, walking to and from the smoking area, and then getting back to speed on my work.  When I was home, it meant stopping whatever I was doing, and just smoking.  I had so little hours in my personal time, raising two girls by myself, that I can only now imagine what I could have gotten done had I not smoked!

Using that 20 minutes in my calculations, I estimate I wasted 2.8 YEARS!  Not to mention the time wasted thinking about my next fix, buying them, checking to be sure I had enough for whatever length of time I needed to cover, etc., etc.

Truly, a bad use of my time!  How much did YOU waste?

Don't worry about old age; it doesn't last.

And neither will your quit if you drink alcohol early in your quit.

Be careful. A quit is a terrible thing to lose!

I have a flower garden outside my kitchen windows and it is barren and boring in the winter months.  When I was walking by the river, I started noticing curly  q  branches along the walking path, created by vines embedding 'round and 'round branches.  I grabbed a bunch when I was walking, and put them in the ground here and there in the garden.  The tall ones kept falling over and some were prostrate on the wet ground.  They weren't especially pleasing to the eye, so i decided to rearrange them.  I decided to make them a bundle, so dug a single, deeper hole and put them all in.

They were thus supporting each other, and the whole became stronger than each singly.  The tall ones stood tall, supported by the more stout ones, and the smaller were also supported

If you are new here, this vehicle provides a place for everyone to gather to celebrate the milestones and successes of those in our community. There are no tickets. The fuel for this locomotive is love and caring. The rides on this train are paid for in contributions to the quits of others! The only thing required to ride this train is a desire to breathe free. We encourage everyone to join in the celebration. No matter where you are in your quit, today is special, and is cause for celebration! Celebrate with others, and they will celebrate with you! There are no baggage fees; bring all your "EXtra baggage" and we will help you sort it out.

How do I count my days? Your personal quit count is located on the “My Quit Plan” tab: http://www.becomeanex.org/my-quit-plan.php#

From time to time we have questions about counting days. While we encourage everyone to celebrate every day of their freedom, here on the Freedom Train we count the days you have completed. For example, Tommy quit on 01/01/2010. On 12/31/2010 he had reached 365 days. However, he had not completed a year until 01/01/2011.

Listen to one of our Ex family who learned the hard way:

"Four years of freedom continued until July 20, 2015 when a celebration of impending retirement resulted in over indulgence in alcohol, and resulted in this foolish person thinking she could smoke one or two cigarettes. This turned into a pack."

Please don't let me hear something like this from YOU!
