What is the Freedom Train?  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/blogs/ShawnP-blog/2016/04/26/what-is-the-freedom-train

If you are new here, this vehicle provides a place for everyone to gather to celebrate the milestones and successes of those in our community. There are no tickets. The fuel for this locomotive is love and caring. The rides on this train are paid for in contributions to the quits of others! The only thing required to ride this train is a desire to breathe free. We encourage everyone to join in the celebration. No matter where you are in your quit, today is special, and is cause for celebration! Celebrate with others, and they will celebrate with you! There are no baggage fees; bring all your "EXtra baggage" and we will help you sort it out.

How do I count my days? Your personal quit count is located on the “My Quit Plan” tab: http://www.becomeanex.org/my-quit-plan.php#

From time to time we have questions about counting days. While we encourage everyone to celebrate every day of their freedom, here on the Freedom Train we count the days you have completed. For example, Tommy quit on 01/01/2010. On 12/31/2010 he had reached 365 days. However, he had not completed a year until 01/01/2011.

or water!

Just don't drink  alcohol this weekend - you don't know at what point your alcohol infused brain will tell you it's OK to have "just one" and you will listen!  The only safe bet is a sober one.

Dell has an update it wants to install which I have been ignoring for weeks. Well, this morning the pop-up won' let me choose to “install”or “remind me later."  The box just sits there, covering the bottom right of my screen.

But....................

I'm not smoking over it!

*** I decided to try rebooting and must have made it angry.  It went away totally!! Score one for ME!!!***

When I got my new computer, I installed my printer and it worked fne - hard wired.  My daughter is still here and wants to print on the wifi network, so I set about trying to make that happen.  I managed to screw it up to the point it wouldn't print at all.  I needed to print a letter yesterday, so determined it had to be the day to work on it again.

Now - I am not technically savy (to say the least).  When I worked, I had a designated tech and any time anything went awry, I just placed a call and VOILA - it was fixed!  Still, I somehow figured this new install couldn't take more than an hour, and then I could make it to the post office and then for a walk along the river before the 4:30 darkness.  Of course, I googled what to do - and found 17 different methods to accomplish it.  I won't bore you with details - suffice it to say it took HOURS - and I became increasingly frustrated and angry:  "why is this taking so long?  I have OTHER things to do?" - "WHY is this taking so long?"  I was eventually successful - but by then it was almost dark and I was REALLY put out that I had not made it to the post office nor for my walk.

I read all the time here from folks who are 2-3-4-5 weeks quit, wondering WHEN it will end.  They ask "why aren't I feeling all happy and free?"  "Will this never end?" They sound agitated and put out and frustrated and..........

But - wait - just like me - they had unreasonable expectations!  Accepting that this is a process and not placing an unreasonable timetable on it is an important part of the quit smoking journey.  Give it the time it takes...I promise you WILL get there, but you must be patient.

A lesson, I guess, I need to learn for my OTHER journeys!

My best friend had to put down her 19 year old kitty.   He had been her best friend all those years - had a TON of personality, would carry on a conversation, and put her to bed every night.   She came home after, and just couldn't imagine her life without him.  The house was so quiet - and her comfort when she was lonely, or bored, or down was gone.  I advised her to get busy - clean out that closet, play a computer game - work on her relationship with her husband to make her need kitty comfort less.

Sound familiar?  It should.  I hope this helps illustrate to the newly quit what losing your "best friend" feels like - and maybe what things to do to help move past it.

She didn't have any choice but to adjust.  If you look at your quit in the same way, perhaps your success will be assured!

YET!

Drinking alcohol is just not a good companion to quitting smoking.  You don't how many ounces will have you thinking "just one won't hurt" and you act  on the thought.

Please don;t mess up a perfectly good quit!

Nancy

Vanlil just wrote a blog and those who responded were just like me --- they HATED the day.  I always felt as though I was being judged for not just giving up this "bad habit."

It started me wondering if any of us here ever observed that day, and, if so, if it was the beginning of a long term quit?

Curious minds want to know!  Thanks!

Nancy
