Our Lives Are Filled With Choices

This weekend is the last time  that my beloved outdoor pool will be open.  It's located in a valley with hills and trees all around it --- just a beautiful spot.  The temps are in the low 60's here at night and only getting to highs in the 70's.  The water will be too cold in which to comfortably swim.  I was bummed and disappointed UNTIL

I chose to remember my laps on Thursday.  It was cool, overcast and dull, but I guessed correctly that the water had not cooled enough to be uncomfortable, so I chose to give it a try.  I was the ONLY person in the pool for my entire 35 minutes of laps.  I chose to swim in the center of the pool, and was accompanied only by the sound of my leg kicks and strokes.  I looked at the cloud formations while doing my laps of backstroke and, although dark and gray, they were nonetheless fascinating in their variety.  I never wanted to leave the pool that day - and it's a memory I will chose to hold dear this entire fall, winter and spring until I can get in it again.

You can CHOOSE how you will think today - gratefil, or sad, or remorseful, or guilty, or wishing you could hide behind a cloud of smoke instead of dealing with what life has thrown at you.  Choose wisely!

I smoked until a vascular surgeon informed me of the damage I had done to myself by doing so. I quit 11 years ago, and I can swim laps virtually FOREVER now, walk most other days 40 minutes to an hour and a half. What a difference quitting has made in my life! I strive to help others find this wonderful freedom from addiction, too.
