What is the Freedom Train?  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/blogs/ShawnP-blog/2016/04/26/what-is-the-freedom-train

If you are new here, this vehicle provides a place for everyone to gather to celebrate the milestones and successes of those in our community. There are no tickets. The fuel for this locomotive is love and caring. The rides on this train are paid for in contributions to the quits of others! The only thing required to ride this train is a desire to breathe free. We encourage everyone to join in the celebration. No matter where you are in your quit, today is special, and is cause for celebration! Celebrate with others, and they will celebrate with you! There are no baggage fees; bring all your "EXtra baggage" and we will help you sort it out.

How do I count my days? Your personal quit count is located on the “My Quit Plan” tab: http://www.becomeanex.org/my-quit-plan.php#

From time to time we have questions about counting days. While we encourage everyone to celebrate every day of their freedom, here on the Freedom Train we count the days you have completed. For example, Tommy quit on 01/01/2010. On 12/31/2010 he had reached 365 days. However, he had not completed a year until 01/01/2011.

Where can I sign up?

You can register for the Freedom Train here.

Common Sense

Posted by Youngatheart.7.4.12 May 22, 2016

Isn't it just common sense to stop doing something that you KNOW is causing your health to deteriorate?  You wouldn't actually play Russion Roulette, would you - but that is what you are doing if you continue to smoke.

Just quit NOW, or stay quit if you are have done the work to get to that point.

Healthy Diet

Posted by Youngatheart.7.4.12 May 15, 2016

It seems that a lot of folks pay more attention to their diets after they quit smoking, and try to eat healthier.  I post this as a Public Service Announcement:

:-)

PLEASE don't drink this weekend!  Drinking can lead to skewed thinking and the idea that "just one puff can't hurt."  It can kill a quit - don't risk it!

"IF YOU ARE NOT RIDING WITH US, YOU ARE MISSING THE TRAIN"

ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL ABOARD!!!!!!!!! Nancy

@breakinthechains' blog encouraged me to write this one.  I was one of those people he talks about who had convinced herself  that  she couldn't quit.  I was so convinced, in fact, that I never even TRIED to quit before this attempt.

You see, I thought I could negate the bad effects of smoking by eating healthy, keeping my weight in check, and exercising EVERY day.  I was awakened from that dream by a vascular surgeon who announced that I had blockages in arteries going to BOTH legs and needed surgery ASAP.  He told me that I needed to quit smoking - and  said that if I continued to smoke,  I would need the same kind of surgery again in the future, and that I  probably wouldn't be healthy enough for him to do it..  The outcome of THAT scenario might have been the loss of one (or both!) legs.

THAT got my attention.  I found a doctor who actually had expertise in helping people quit, I ignored the Maryland Quit Line (which was a total and complete joke), started on Chantix, and quit a week later.  I was TERRIFIED and did not have the benefit of this site and its educational materials and support until four days into my quit.  Once I found it, though, I took advantage of all it had to offer.  I read the Allen Carr book - which really opened my eyes!  I read the blogs and pages of people who had been successful.  I struggled, I cried, I got depressed, I paced, got angry and my digestive system decided not to work.  But - I stuck to it - one day at a time.  I took the list of 100 things to do instead of smoke and stayed busy, busy, busy.

The vascular surgery started me on the path of four years of surgeries and recoveries --- which I would not wish on my worst enemy.    PLEASE don't wait until your health is compromised!  If you are getting ready to quit,  commit to it and do it - one day at a time.  If you have quit - don't smoke another one again in your life NO MATTER WHAT!

This story has a happy ending - but it would not have been so if I hadn't quit.  I am walking 50 minutes at a time, swimming laps, and taming a 20 ft. tall forsythia hedge.  There IS life after smoking - and it is wonderful!!!
