As we begin a new season, some of us (even long term quitters) can begin to "romance the cigarette."  We remember being in a special place, perhaps with a special person, all was right with the world, and we felt at peace.  The memory includes smoking a cigarette because, well, we pretty much always had one in hand, didn't we?

The thing is - that moment had not a thing to do with smoking!!  It was a time and place that was special to us, and it included smoking  because everything in those days did.  BUT - it is the MOMENT, not the cigarette,  that  we want to recreate.

Go ahead and recreate that moment in a new way.  Smoking is NOT required!

Good morning fellow EXer's! The Freedom Train is on the tracks (a special computer train in honor of Shawn!) , and prepared to make it's daily run to Freedom from smoking! Everyone is invited to come aboard to celebrate their own personal Freedom, and that of their friends!!

If you are new here, this vehicle provides an area for everyone to gather and celebrate the milestones, and successes of those in our community! There are no tickets! The fuel for this locomotive is love and caring! The rides on this Train are paid for in contributions to the quits of others! The only thing required to ride this Train is a desire to breathe Free! We encourage everyone to join in the celebration! No matter where you are in your quit, today is special, and is cause for celebration! Celebrate with others, and they will celebrate with you! There are no baggage fees! Bring all your "EXtra baggage"! We will help you sort it out!

From time to time we do have questions about counting days. While we encourage everyone to celebrate everyday of their Freedom, here at the Freedom Train we count the days you have completed! For EXample I quit on 01/01/2010. On 12/31/2010 I had reached 365 days. However, I had not completed a year until 01/01/2011! Please feel free to address any questions or suggestions to me at any time! https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/people/pir8fan

Now, we encourage you to come aboard today! Shout out your personal milestones, and those of your friends! Show your pride in your quit! 2 Days, 200 Days or 2000 Days! More, if you have them! Let us hear from you, and let us all celebrate our FREEDOM!! Post food and music! IT IS PARTY TIME!!!

This Train is bound for FREEDOM from the Evils tobacco and smoking!!

is when many quits have sunk.

Be smart and save your quit!

Nancy

For two years after you quit smoking, you will probably have a smoking memory when the seasons change. Be prepared, not surprised by it. This is probably because you only experience these four times a year, so you haven't formed new associations yet.

I especially felt this the first time I raked leaves. I was used to taking a break with a bottle of ice water and a smoke. What I had was not really a craving, but more than just a memory! I came up with the idea of a small, ice cold Pepsi over crushed ice. I don't drink soda anymore, so it really is a treat.

Your memory might be sitting on the deck with your favorite beverage, or after doing yard work. You might want to think about a plan for what you will do differently THIS spring!

Smokemares

Posted by Youngatheart.7.4.12 Apr 20, 2016

Estelle's blog reminded me - I had a smokemare last night!!!  I just went to the beach - when I made the reservation I caught myself thinking how nice a cigarette would be with my coffee watching the sunrise over the ocean.  WHAT?  I have been quit for 3 3/4 YEARS!!!!   What I REALLY wanted, I know, was to recreate that moment when my health was still perfect, I hadn't a worry in the world .  I think that one thought triggered last night's 'mare.

It takes a long time and lots of repetitions to get past the associations and triggers built up over years of smoking.  And - I haven't been able since I quit to see that many sunrises on the beach to build NEW memories.

The good news is that, the further along we get in our quits, the easier these moments are to swat away....but we must ALWAYS be vigilant.  Just the way it is!

Nancy

and left ME to buy the two right shoe leftovers!

But - I'm not smoking over it!!!

Update:  REI found the box with two left shoes in it!  Now - I just have to get back there!  STILL not smoking over it!

These are dangerous - plain and simple.  I want you all to be smokefree AND safe.

Further proof - it's a bad idea to drink alcohol when you are quitting smoking.

Please don't!
