Real

Donna(djmurray)  also asked that I share this with the community.

Donna (djmurray) asked me to share the following with you (she was having trouble getting it on here!)

Find a mirror and take a GOOD look at your face!  Really look at your teeth and gums.  If you haven't already quit - think about the wrinkles you will add,  the stained teeth, the teeth and gum loss, and the overall gray cast to your skin by continuing to smoke.

You can GLOW and not add wrinkles and save those teeth and gums! Quit now and STAY quit!

It's Fall in Maryland, and yesterday was cool enough to work on cleaning up the garage. It's been almost four years since I have been healthy enough to work like that, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting filthy and cleaning up the mess I had made during that time.

When I came inside, “BAM,” I wanted a cigarette! The change in seasons AND task completed triggers were in high gear. Of course I was expecting them, so I got my iced Pepsi instead.

Be forewarned!  Don't be caught unaware!

What the Sh*t!

I lost my quit!

Just one puff restarted it!

Please don't drink this weekend; your quit needs to remain your #1 priority. You really can't  know how many it takes before "just one puff" sounds reasonable.

Happy Birthday, Sharon!

And some eye candy!

Enjoy your special day!

Whether you are afraid to quit, or wonder “when it gets better,” or how the freedom we talk about feels, you need to trust those of us who have been there to tell you.

Just ask! We can tell you what you can expect in the early days; we can guide you to reading materials to take the mystery out of them. We can tell you how wonderful it feels to face an incoming storm without having to brave its beginning to go purchase cigarettes “just in case.” To tell you how wonderful it feels not to be ashamed of the way you smell, or what people think about the fact you are still smoking. How it feels to attend a child's concert or baseball game without having to worry about when you can get your next “fix.”

The elders are here to guide you! Just ask!!!

The most difficult part of quitting smoking is mental.  There are hundreds of triggers and associations in our days that our minds link to smoking!  Angry?  Have a cigarette!  Lonely?  Have a cigarette!  Boss unkind?  Have a cigarette?  Tough deadline?  Have a cigarette!  Disrespectful child?  Have a cigarette!  That's not even mentioning the after meal ones, the coffee one(s), the finished task one(s), the driving one(s).  All (and more) of those things trigger a smoking need.

The nicotine is out of your system in 72 hours.  Your body needs to adjust to life without it, which takes maybe a couple of months.  During that time and after, it is the MENTAL triggers that create the desire to smoke.  Once you conquer each one in a different way (Angry?  Take a walk!  Bored?  Play a computer game! After dinner?  Clear the table right away!) you begin to relearn your life as a nonsmoker.  Each thing you unlearn takes care of THAT situation.  See why it takes awhile?

Give your quit the time it needs.  Dale's challege is 130 days.  It takes most that long to unlearn the triggers and associations we have with smoking.  You, then, must STILL get through two years of holidays, seasons changing, family dramas to be truly done - but these are more like memories and are easy to get past once you realize what is going on.

This all takes some effort - but I promise you it is worth it!  Stay the course!

"Friends I'm sorry!  Almost 200 days and I couldn't hold it. A little alchohol (yup) (normally not a problem)  an old friend, they lit up, a little wine, a little summer weather. Romancing the cig  I was toast!!!"

It happens more often than not.  Don't chance it - your quit needs to be nonalcohlic!

The Locked Shed

Posted by Youngatheart.7.4.12 Sep 2, 2015

Chuck's blog reminded me that I visualized my addiction as a shed I was trapped in.  There was light under the door - just a glimmer - but I knew freedom was just beyond it!

I needed to find out how to pick that lock, or take down a wall  - so I read and read and read some more.  I decided the lock was the most promising.  I worked and worked and worked on that lock  And lo and behold, I got that door open, and guess what???!

There IS freedom on the other side of that door.  It takes education, perseverance and commitment, but you CAN get there!

Come join us!
