Gratitude and Update

I had a few hours yesterday to re-read my cards, messages on the Caring Bridge, and the wonderful booklet that Strudel put together for me (and it did take HOURS!)  I wanted to let you know how much it all meant to me.  I felt your arms around me, your love.  And, all your prayers WERE answered!

When I first got home, I could not stand up from a chair without help.  The rehab folks told my daughters I would not be able to come home and would have to move to assisted living.  My girls told them, "You don't know my Mom!"  I was blessed to have my younger daughter available to care for me in the early days, and she was an amazing caretaker.  She could not have been more kind, more patient, more loving.  I don't know what I did to deserve her!

Update from today. I have a PT coming twice a week to the house, and he has me doing thirty sit/stands without assistance!   I am walking six blocks by myself with only a cane, fixing my own food, hand washing dishes for three (my daughter and her boyfriend are here), doing my own wash, going up and downstairs at will, scrubbing bathrooms!!!  The only thing I'm not able to do is hang my wash outside (tough to carry laundy with a cane!!!).  I can't carry laundry upstairs yet - but I am forgetting to use my cane in the house most of the time (and lose it regularly!) - so that won't be long!!!  I have been given permission to go to the pool - although it's 65 (?) degree temperature doesn't make it too appealing right now!  Driving is not too far off in the future

I thank you, again, with all my heart for your caring and prayers. You truly made a difference.

I smoked until a vascular surgeon informed me of the damage I had done to myself by doing so. I quit 11 years ago, and I can swim laps virtually FOREVER now, walk most other days 40 minutes to an hour and a half. What a difference quitting has made in my life! I strive to help others find this wonderful freedom from addiction, too.
