than throw a piece of gum in your mouth, or put on a patch!  If you want to be successful in quitting smoking, you need to do the preparation.  Educating yourself on nicotine withdrawal and the effect of smoking on your body and brain is absolutely necessary to a successful quit.  Once you have done the reading, you need to prepare a plan that will work for YOU, and choose a product that you think is the best for you.  if any.   Once you have done the reading, made your plan, and gathered your crave busters, it is time to set your quit date.  You must then make your commitment that smoking is not something you are going to do anymore.  Commitment is THE key ingredient to success.

Joining a community like EX is also important, I think, to a successful quit.  Ask for advice and support as you need it.  We all here are behind you - but you must also do YOUR part. Together, we CAN do this!

I smoked until a vascular surgeon informed me of the damage I had done to myself by doing so. I quit 11 years ago, and I can swim laps virtually FOREVER now, walk most other days 40 minutes to an hour and a half. What a difference quitting has made in my life! I strive to help others find this wonderful freedom from addiction, too.
